I may have cut the nose down a little too much. I think I can shim the nose up a little bit. This is my very first chop-nose and so far it looks like I won't be using much putty.

As far as my F-unit project, I haven't mademuch headway on it. I was sent the wrong parts from an auction (I bought details for an ABBA set, I got 4 sets of A details) and have been waitingon a piece of .06 styrene. I got the styrene yesterday, but am still waiting on the detail parts for the B-units. I managed to score an undec stewart/Kato F9 to use in my F-unit project (it was only advertised as a stewart, so I was very suprised to get the stewart/kato drive). That happened to be a boost for the F-unit project because I now have 4 correct shells (the other F9 had a single headlight) and 3 chassis. A friend is going be be sending me 4 more chassis and 2 shells in a few weeks, so I may bump it up to 2 sets of F-units. Although 2 of the Fs I'll be getting from a friend are ATSF, I'll trade them with a friend who models the ATSF for some undecs.

I also bagged a Kato SD40 in CB&Q. This one will be modeled as a C&S that hasn't hit the paint shop yet. I just have to add the nose light and convert the upper headlight to a mars light. In addtion to the SD40, I snagged to GP38Xs. The X designation was used by the BN to differenciate the ex-Conrail GP38s from the normal BN and SLSF ones.

I have pics ofthe GP38Xs, but I don't want to clog up this thread.

I have been working on a river - using Pledge floor carewith Future.  I have used one bottle and am starting on a second.  It is a slow process as each "layer" needs to dry before pouring the next.  The nice thing is the consistency - it self levels and looks like water.  Several friends came by and thought it was water until they touched it.  As I understand, it will not shrink or discolor.

Got a bit more tracklaying done.  The main and yard lead are now down and powered up to the east classification yard ladder at Fort St John.

I love the sidng being lower than the main - that's going to make for a terrific scene!

Canadian National tri-level auto rack with brass stanchions, railings, news posts from a donor car and open ladders added, along with being lowered and the bolsters repositioned so the trucks aligned with the jack plates.  I used the model nine months ago to showcase the new 1975-81 Opel Manta by Herpa.  The Manta can pass for a 1975-81 Chevy Monza.  Alas, as fate would have it, the model is no longer available and Herpa has no current plans to rerun it.

I had one of those places on my layout that I was never happy with (like we all have at one time or another) and, after trying several building combinations over the past few years, I finally found a pleasing group of structures that just seemed to fit and make a nice busy scene.  The structures are Woodland Scenic's "pre-fabs" and I really like them a lot.  The only thing pre-fab is the basic building is a single molding but there's a minimum of four sprues of details.  A little paint, a little time, and each kits makes a neat scene all by itself.  I kinda visualized these three structures making a nice busy scene and I wasn't disappointed.  I had already spread ground foam on the area and was not excited about scraping and making messes so, I cut a piece of 1 mm styrene sheet to the shape I wanted, painted a sidewalk and parking lot, racked the building in place with Goo, spread ground foam, added the details, and placed it on my layout.  I like the way it looks... now I can go onto other things.

I spent almost two days researching and documenting the cost to replace or repair my James River Branch layout after UPS trashed it. $42,866 to replace; $12,250 to repair. It was insured for $10,000, so they can't claim it was over-insured; the question remains how much they're going to cough up for me. I have not heard from them after faxing and mailing an 11-page document to their claims department.

Not much for me this week as work has been busy, but I did have a show last Saturday in Bartlett. I added skirting to the layout and some nice CR blue table coverings. I just need to paint the sides of the sky boards black as well. I need to rebuild one of the streets, as it was accidently damaged during transport.

Now I'm just trying to figure out if I am going to pick up a HD Dyna Wide Glide or a Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic next week....hmmmmmm decisions decisions
