Something a bit different this weekend.  A fellow on Trainboard asked me how many cars a Kato SD70ACe would pull - I said at least fifty.  But that's really not accurate enough, is it?

Turns out the loco will pull 65 cars with considerable wheelslip, but it will start them and keep them rolling on level track.  It would walk away with only fifty, and probably take them up a grade.  And these weren't forty foot cars - I have very few forties - but fifties and sixties - lots of covered hoppers, in short, whatever I had sitting in the yard.  They are equipped with metal wheels.

I spruced up 4 ConCor 40' Conrail Trailvans for my TOFC trains.  I'll put up a photo in a bit.

We're a military family (I'm an active duty USAF Lt Col and my wife is a reserve Lt Col select) and a Scouting family, so Memorial Day weekend is special to us.  We went with Cub Scout Pack 105 this morning, bright and early, to plant flags at Barrancas National Cemetery on NAS Pensacola.

The whole family (my wife Patricia and I are Den Leaders)...



Lastly, I'll share a video I made in November.  I was recovering at home from my back surgery and came across my Iraq photos from 2003.  Veterans' Day rolled around and I was feeling sentimental (and medicated) so I made this video.  As far as I know, the people in this video made it home.  Not all from our unit and base camp did, though.  We remember.

I'm slowly moving multiple projects forward as time, finances and parts procurement permit.  Got one step closer today to finishing the modifications/upgrades on my first three MTL heavyweights.  Replaced all the interiors with light gray counterparts from the stock B&O cars about a month ago.  Added steam pipes today.  All that remains to finish them is frosting the bathroom windows and adding a light dusting of weathering.

Finished this one this afternoon to go along with my early BN equipment that I run on the side. N scale Atlas EV caboose completely repainted and decaled with Fox Valley wheels added. (Sorry Tim!)

Another week of great stuff shown here so far. Fitting opening photo Richie. 
Love those Conrail Trailvans Dave! Now what would a string of double stacks being pulled by a pair of Horse head units look like in that scene..   :P :D

I went to the dark side and purchased an HO SD70M...

…or I spent a few too many hours detailing the snot out of a Kato N scale SD70M. New window paint, grab ons, cut levers, Sinclairs, and ripped off the chunky hand rails and used .0010 wire to make some new ones. I left the black section on the front hand rail, as you can't really see how thick it is, and its eliminates about 2/3 of the pain of doing customer hand rails (i.e. no soldering) Won’t bother with the side rails for the same reason.

Good stuff this Memorial Day Weekend.....

I've been working on a couple of projects.....

First is this HO scale C424 that I'm working on, to give the one behind it a partner....MEC didn't have any C424s, so this is a foobie.....



Back to N scale..
Next is this shot which shows a more complete paper mill scene, along with some weathered trailers...



And last is this pair of homemade scrap metal loads, made from real rust from a truck....

Didnt Guilford letter some of the D&H 424s in MEC reporting marks or am I thinking something else?
