Nothing photogenic, but I replaced my MRC decoders with an NCE and TCS decoder in two of my newly painted CN units.  I don't know if it is the TCS decoder or the Kato drive, but it ran like a Swiss watch on the default settings.  MRC decoders are going into the closet- lesson learned.

Well, I have done little of train value save for airbrushing a couple of MT undec
Boxcars...but as I type this I am sitting on my deck, enjoying a
Well poured glass of Makers Mark, eating eight year old Quebec cheddar and
Relishing a Cuban bought Montecristo petit tubos cigar under crystal
Blue sky's and moderate spring temperatures so life just ain't too bad...

Next week....well, maybe we'll do better
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I picked up a new F45 that neither me or the seller knew had a decoder with wiring to the beacon (I don't think a DH123 supports an accesory function) in it:

The new and the old F45, the fans are different for some reason:

Also got an SW15(00). Again another model holding me back from seriously thinking about N-scale.

I know I did no actual modeling this week (ducks from the  :ashat:s). However, I'm on the verge of starting to make some BN F-units. I just have to close a few deals on parts and stuff. Here's part 1 of my F-unit saga, and my first actual F-unit (seriously, it's my first good one. The rest were lifelike or Bachmanns that I don't count)
(not my picture)
I bought it thinking it was right for BN 703, which was the only BN F3B I can find that made it into 1977. Then I found a roofshot of it as a GN unit, and it didn't have DBs or overhangs. It may have been upgraded into an F7 internally though, and the overhangs may have been cut down. So I if I were to make this correct, I'd have to cut the overhangs off and remove the DB screens. Or I could make it an SGU or an RCU. I'm gonna run it by an NYC friend to see if he has some other road F-unit he wants to swap for it.

Supposedly they have gotten better, but I'm not gonna test them after my only experience with them in my 1st Athearn Genesis F45. I kept the decoder in their just for the sound and lights, but now have a digitrax decoder for the motor.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

I've been making steady progress on my Intermountain N scale tank car kits. I finally decided to use modeling clay to weigh the cars down. I fill the tank body with it, and it provides much-needed heft to the cars.

Hmm... Kiz bought enough
clay to do 50 O scale tank
cars . Doofus...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I got a couple of those kits laying around and thanks for the idea on weight.  Still got a can of old playdough from when my sons were young and I'll use that.

I like it already. Nice F45s too. Did I mention my favorite loco is the F45?)

I saw a photo on the net last week of a crossing shanty in Hammond Indiana and it just begged to be modeled.  I've been looking for a crossing shanty to model for some time but, there's so much of a "sameness" about them... this one was "different".  I estimated the footprint to be 8' x 8' but, the size of the windows I had on hand dictated the actual footprint of the model would be 11' x 11'.  The roof was a bugger to do but, it's acceptable to me.  The shanty will have a permanent place on my layout.

Diggin that scratched out shanty, Dick.  Reminds me of the first structure I scratched out for my layout...

Maryland Jct. tower.  It's about a 1" square footprint.

Not sure what I'll be working on this weekend... if anything.  For Mothers Day I'll be at Mom's rebuilding her porch steps!
