Robyn has been glued to the TV this weekend - "Bob Ross Weekend" on PBS' CreateTV channel.  :D

I've been working on the GC&W website in prep for the possible layout tour next summer. Just finished this page, not linked to the main page yet: http://www.gibboncozadandwestern.com/phases.html . Lemme know what you think.

Love the writeup! It definitely helps put it all in to context without all the noise of the build theread. 😊

The GC&O writing in your background image makes the text hard to read at those spots however. (more of an issue for mobile users)

Thanks!

Hmm... background image... what writing? Can you post a screen shot? Beyond the header I don't see anything on multiple systems here other than the yellow background fade. Has to be something weird in my code.

Your header with the background it repeating on mobile as you scroll down.

Also, there's a space in the file name.  Shame on you.

Gawd, that file name has been that way for four years. Fixed on this page, I need to edit the front page and that has to come later.

Don't quite know what to do about the phone appearance. It's fine under desktop browsers and the iPad. :|

Here's what I see... It's not nearly as bad in landscape...
And as Jason says it repeats throughout the page.

A lazy person would know to redo the file, extending the yellow fade until it doesn't repeat on the phone.    :D

OK, I think I know what to do, at least in principle. The last time I coded a web page was... well, four years ago. I'll work on it later this evening after getting a couple of more turnouts down.

A lazy person would know to redo the file, extending the yellow fade until it doesn't repeat on the phone.   :)

LOL! Yeah, tempting, but I need to go back and do it right.

Thanks for the write up Mike.  It certainly does put the (huge) project in perspective.  It should be a blast to operate.  I've learned a lot from your design and construction explanations offered during the build process.

Thanks, Steve! Heck, I needed the review for myself to refresh some the creative thought in the project. I'm glad I did because I had lost sight on everything I was after for the Los Angeles peninsula.

Jason and Ryan - give it a try now, and don't forget to clear local cache. At least on my iPhone it took completely clearing Safari memory since it wanted to keep the old background regardless of how many times I force-refreshed the page. Strange.

Much better the header is where it should be... 😎 ...and fwiw no clearing of cache required on Android.

Have to say again how much I like the writeup! This project is awe inspiring everytime I look at it. 😊

Good news/bad news. First, the bad news: I learned this morning the layout will not be included in the 2020 NMRA convention layout bus tours.

Now for the good news:  I learned this morning the layout will not be included in the 2020 NMRA convention layout bus tours.

  :D  :D  :D

However, it might be listed on the self-guided roster. I certainly understand why - we are just too far away (80 miles) from the convention venue, and there is a lot o' nuthin' between there and here. If afforded this opportunity, I would describe it as "A very large N scale layout in a standalone building in early stages of construction. 10% scenicked."

I'm mostly relieved. The stress of meeting hard date commitments on big projects was something I thought was left behind when I retired six years ago. This way I can readjust construction progress to suit my own goals and not feel pressured into completion milestones. I have my own priorities which don't necessarily involve scenicking the existing operating parts of the layout. Specifically, this is building out the benchwork, track and basic geoforms for Phase 1 so I have a yard and can get three LDEs checked off the bucket list. Phase 1 is adding the center peninsula:

Looking at the plan again, I realized that most of my LDE goals are in Phases 0 and 1: Colton Tower, Victorville Cement, Daggett Junction, Yermo, Afton Canyon, Kelso, Sinclair refinery and the Cozad grain elevator. Phase 2 is an extension of Phase 1 where the primary LDEs are the Meadow Valley Wash, and Grant Tower. Phases 3 and 4 are huge projects with several specific features in mind, but other than Bandini Mountain in Phase 3 and the roundhouse in Phase 4 plus maybe the Cheyenne depot, not much there of a focus scene to hang my hat on. Maybe that's a good thing. Like not being on the 2020 layout tour. ;)

I was working with a friend to prep his layout to be featured on a layout tour for a convention.. and after weeks of nights and weekends and a several 12 hour days.. we got the layout to where we could run trains..

Then came convention day... the schedule got thrown off and we had a total of 2.. (TWO) visitors for the convention.  He didnt touch the layout for a year after that. And we haven't worked on the layout since
. (That was 3 or 4 years ago now)..  But we can run trains!!
