No... but you have to understand that the CNO&TP is a former Southern Railway subsidiary created to operate the Cincinnati Southern, which was built by the city and is still owned by the city.  Some of its history can be read at the site below...

I've heard the rumor also, although it came from no one who would know. They did substitute the TA&G fro N&S, so IF they did more, TA&G would be back in. I doubt NH would come back as NS does not own or operate on the ex-NH lines. Could also do EL, P&WV and W&LE. After that you would REALLY have to do some digging.

I don't think running over former trackage is a prerequisite, otherwise NH wouldn't have been in the preliminary list to begin with.  I think it is licensing issues, as CONNDOT uses the NH "New Image" scheme and/or herald on multiple pieces of equipment.

Actually... it is highly likely a licensing issue. I've mentioned I work for a transportation software and engineering consulting company. I have heard a buzz more than once there is somebody in our trade who is very seriously thumping the idea with transit agencies that they can make megabucks by licensing their logos, etc., - a/k/a "trade dress". Public agency managers who think they can hang on to their overpaid, phony-baloney jobs eat this kind of stuff for lunch, "I don't care how much you want me to pay you to do this for 'us', where do I sign?"

This was the source of the big dust-up down in New Mexico, where it took years for Athearn to get permission for the RoadRunner trademark and paint. I have no doubt that any ConnDOT issue on the McGinnis scheme would be the same idiot at work.

That maybe some of it, but when the first schemes were "leaked", the official announcement had yet to be made from Norfolk and the did some looking at a bunch of issues before the list as we know it came out. Who knows, they might just put it back in, they did with PC, but the reason NH was dropeed in the first place was they never owned or operated on any of it's lines, even though NH was a part of PC and if you trace each railroad in the heritage fleet, you will fined a major common thread. NS as it is now operates on or has spun off lines from each railroad.

That's the Savannah & Atlanta. I believe though, their only diesel scheme was the tuxedo, which is why I love that the Southern unit was green and white.

Several people have braoched the theory that the Savannah & Atlanta had a diesel scheme that originally was red & cream or some version of Red. I have never found any reference to it though.

Here is the description of the original S&A paint scheme... courtesy of Bill Schafer and the Southern Railway List at Yahoo! Groups...

"They were dark green, with yellow "wings" on the nose.  The company logo was comprised of stainless steel letters and borders, with a red background -- small logo on nose and rear, and a large logo under each cab window."

The S&A tuxedo black scheme is an unusual choice since it was wore by the eleven GP35s for approximately 6 years.  Around 1970-1971 lettering was changed to have Southern lettering with "S&A" sublettering and the addition of the "wheels on rails" heralds on both ends.

What former New York Central trackage does NS own?  They have trackage rights over the West Shore Line, but it's not theirs.  What former Lackawanna trackage does NS own?  They use the former Erie lines to go west through Port Jervis into northern PA, and the Pennsy route through southern PA.

According to Wikipedia, these current roads own and operate over former NYNH&H trackage: Bay Colony, Central New England, Connecticut Southern, CSX, Housatonic Railroad, Massachusetts Coastal, Naugatuck, Norfolk Southern, Pan Am Railways, Providence and Worcester.

It seems to be somewhat of a stretch on roads being chosen based on current trackage when they are including roads in the Heritage program that were predecessors of predecessors of predecessors.  More than likely, NS realized after the initial announcement that CONNDOT owns the rights to the "New Image" scheme, and it would make far more sense to use the New Haven scheme that ushered in the corporate modern graphics era rather than the dated script herald scheme.

Lackawanna is easy:  the secondary line from Phillipsburg to Dover NJ -  I think it's the Washington Secondary?

NYC is the CR Chicago line - one of the busiest on the entire NS!!!

Re: predecessors of predecessors - I agree it's inconsistent, but probably has more to do with some manager chiming in and saying what about the old Podunk and Western and the people working on the program anxious to please.
