Your first N scale picture that you said "wow" to...

Everyone started somewhere and probably had more "oops" than "wows" for the first little while. What was the first picture of your own work that you saw and said "wow, now that's what we're talking about !" (or some such reference.....)

Mine was this....one of the first times I'd decaled and weathered a car that didn't look like it was done by and 11 year old....



and then this was published in Canadian Railroad Modeler and I knew I was on the right track...



So; what was yours ?

Here's my "wow" factor that  showed I still had what it takes to model in  N.

Nothing fancy just a simple basic kitbash in a smaller scale-mind you I been modeling in HO..

I think mine was this:



It was the first completed scene on my layout.  After I took the photo, I thought, "I can do this".  Meaning, in my own minds eye, my work (most of it anyway) can hold it's own.

This was my first train group membership and convention- the FEC One-trak group (FEC NTrak) and I worked so hard to get a module done and weather my only FEC loco at the time, all so simple now! But this one told me I was getting there for the first time:




And this one told me I had arrived when it got in MR trackside photos:

Hmm.. I don't like any of my own modeling, or pics  .. but I always liked this one.  It came out looking much better than I thought, for using just my phone.   I like how the weathering and scenery came together.

Although I have been satisfied with many pictures that luck and lightning have allowed me to take I don't know that any of my pics are "wow"-worthy.

Not my first "wow" photo, but the first one of any significance.  The photo was recorded on Kodachrome so I don't have a digital copy, or the original slide, but it was taken to cover N Scale Magazine v11 #5.  Taken the old-fashioned way, with a pinhole lens-plate that was about f90 and a five minute exposure under 1500w of high-mounted photo-flood lamps.



The two-page night shot close-up photo of the illuminated passenger car in the follow-up article in the N Scale Magazine 10-year special book wasn't too shabby either.

There was the one of the overpass after you strung your electric lines.

And the close-up one of the highway on the Enola section.

Ditto on that thought.  You've taken your share of "wow" photos Dave.  One that comes to mind is the photograph of the cabin car at the end of a freight consist on the stone bridge over the highway, taken low from the vantage point of the highway.

"wow" to me meant that I, for the first time, didn't have a 'toy train" look to the photograph; be it due to the actual models and setting or the quality of the photography, or more likely both... Lt Col; Dr. Vollmer's work passes that test in spades....
