Mike et. al,  I had not seen this topic previously, but today 22 March 2013, I opened the link and followed to the inaugural run of a train and viewed the photos.
1. This is definitely an excellent testimonial to how "bullet proof" Kato Unitrack is!
2. It also confirms my personal feeling than a zero grade layout can be very interesting and satisfying to run.
3. It also proves how much a few dedicated enthusiasts can accomplish.
My best wishes to all of you.  Keep the updates coming.

Thank you so much and what you say is true. While we have had some small issues with the unitrack and foam they are easy to overcome vs. other track systems. While the layout has a mountain there are separate by-passes that allow trains that cannot pull the grade to go around it.
I have always believed that flat layouts do not have to mean boring. The use of view blocks (i.e. hills, buildings, trees, etc.) is the key.
Yep there are about 7 members but realistically 3 of us have done about 90% of what you see so far but we praise the others for their support and monetary contributions as well.
We ALL have fun!!!!

Well Gents, we had an open house last week and fairly good attendance for our area and the fact we are 16 miles outside town.
 We have gotten the fascia up and the top edge cut and will soon move on to our hybrid skirting (hard and soft combo).

Modeling and trackwork looks very top notch, but also impressed by the very tasteful and uncluttered look of the environment for the layout. Congrats! Robert

Thanks Robert , yes we had to do it that way because once a year we run about 5000 people through the building in 5 days for the fair.
There is only a few of us as well so we do not need it to be any bigger. We also wanted it free standing and modular (sorta) in case we loose the building some day.

Here is the latest from the Southern New Mexico N Scalers.
We are happy to announce we had a huge donation from a couple in Alamogordo NM of nearly $5000.00 worth of N scale structures and supplies.
We have all of the fascia and hard skirting painted and are currently working on the sky board.

I have a friend who is being relocated from the area to New Mexico.  Can you please  PM me your email address so I can put him in touch with you.  He is an N-Traker who likes to run big long trains from the modern era and would like to be put in touch with some local A$$hats.
