New New Mexico N Scale Club

We have secured a 200' X 30' building at the Southern New Mexico Fair Grounds. It is half renovated and free rent and free electricity , water and restrooms attached.
We will have to share it with the HO club but I am guessing we will wind up with about 30' X 50' area.
We have not even named the N Scale club yet and only 4 members but we have lift-off!!!

Mike,Congratulations and good luck with the new club.

Only 4 members? I know of a N Scale club that started with 2 guys with high hopes of getting a  N Scale club started in a heavy HO modeling area..

Today the club is going strong with 22 members.

Actually that is one name that was considered N Scalers of New Mexico is another but we have plenty of time.
We are hoping to have a great web site and be able to have distant members as well.
We are currently in the stage of soliciting donations of time and materials locally (however the Fair will be opening soon).
The HO group has been out there for about 10 years and there really is no need for a lease. If we got ejected we have nothing in the structure other than time and removable layouts.
The HO layout room was almost all done with donations from local businesses.

Model RR clubs, like all clubs,  have a way of changing.  They seem to morph into different renditions of themselves.  You will get a lot of people who are "hangers on" and who do no work.  Our club once boasted 30 members; now we have about seven.  The seven we have are the ones who did the work when we had 30.  Make it mandatory that each member actually puts in his/her share of work and that includes cleaning the restroom.

I have started a couple clubs and know how it tends to get away from the original and I was the toilet and window cleaner!! :ashat:
