They just joined so they could post the Bachmann link and get banned. It's all the rage.

What John did was read a question about the Bachmann 2-10-2 and replied with a link to the model. Apparently he failed to read the notice by Atlas that the next person posting a link would be suspended. Really too bad. Suspensions are never permanent. Unfortunate they chose to suspend someone who is trying to help someone else, and they leave the people who post irrelevant, off topic drivel to continue. I should think this only encourages further nonsense. Less problems there.

There are several manufacturers on the Atlas board all for free or defending their HO models..

There are several manufacturers on the Atlas board all for free or defending their HO models..

If one reads Rule 16 it states that other manufacturers are permitted to post on the forum to make annoiuncements and even provide a link to their site provided they identify themselves as a representative of that manufacturer.  That is contained in the first two sentences of the rule.  Here it is as stated:

"Other manufacturers are welcome to participate on the Atlas Forums. Manufacturer's representatives should be clearly identified in their profile and their signature.  Manufacturers are also permitted to make announcements of their new products, provided the announcement is a brief statement containing what is being announced, and including a single link to the manufacturer's web site where all of the other information can be found (item numbers, road names, pricing, etc)."

The last four sentences then read as follows:

"Announcements that do not follow this format, or that are posted by someone other than a manufacturer's representative, will be removed. Discussion of officially announced products will be permitted, but links to the announcements or product pages may only be posted by a manufacturer's representative. Posts that do not follow these guidelines will be removed. Repeated violations of this policy will result in suspension of posting privileges."

I applaud Atlas for having the courage to follow through and not follow the apparently "Politically Correct" line of thinking that seems to be prevalent in the wake of all this.  Any attempts to link this with actions of Kader and what is or is not occurring in China is wishful thinking.   Atlas had a decision to make, either apply the rules accross the board or create a credibility issue.   They chose wisely.

The rule about manufacturers posting their own announcements has been in place for a number of years.  We also request that replies to those announcements get sent to the manufacturer via email or PM.  We want manufacturers to be able to get the word out about their products, but we don't want shills in their doing their work for them.  This is why a manufacturer's announcement will frequently get locked, even if there are no posts to it.

In the case of the Bachmann announcements, Bachmann is free to come over and post their announcement, however having people repeatedly post the link to the Bachmann PDF is in violation of Rule 16, and one of the moderators even went as far as pointing out which rule was being violated.

And before anyone gets the idea of using a Tom'sto post a link - the moderators check those as well.

Posting links to other manufacturers' announcements has always been forbidden on the Atlas Forum. They are not getting grumpy: they're just continuing an ongoing policy. Seems straightforward to me.

I doubt that it has anything to do with Kader-envy. In fact Atlas has stated that Bachmann (like any other N manufacturer) is free to post their own announcements on the Atlas Forum, but that they choose not to.

inkaneer,As a moderator on three forums I understand the suspension even though to my mind it seems a tad harsh especially when I seen far worst on the HO forum.I seen bashing of competitors products,Botchmann used as a standard word by some and etc.

What John did was against the rules but,is it any worst then calling Bachmann "Botchmann" which is disrespectful?

As a moderator I think both is equal but,its Atlas's forum and they must tend to their own house keeping.

Getting nasty over there.  Lots of people are pissed that John Sing got canned for a little while.  Atlas runs the board the way they want and I respect that but I do sometimes think they are a little thin skinned about certain things.

Hi Bob,
I was wondering who was thin skinned... Atlas or people?
I ask cause I laughed when I realized you may well have meant both!

ROTF!!!  The entire first page of threads on the Atlas forum is now locked. That's pretty funny too.

Bottom line. It's their forum, they can make whatever rules they want and ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. The fact that about 10 people or so continued to post links to the PDF or the Bachymann forum is beyond crazy. I'
m surpried the forum hasn;t been shut down.
