The most complex N scale layout....ever?

Check out Mike Devaney's N scale layout in progress. It may be the most complex N scale layout ever.
http://www.ser-nmra.org/sites/ser-nmra.org/files/pubs/souv52n1.5.pdf It starts on pag 25. Mike owns a Hobby shop in Georgia. To say he is an uber-rail fan is an under statement.

That bridge is awesome.

The N scale layout looks pretty awesome too. Similar concept to my club's HO layout, which is designed to spread over 6 decks over 3 separate aisle levels.

Building it is only 25% of the fun.  Then there is the maintenance..................  Sometimes too much is just too much.

I worry about operators getting bored and cranking the throttle to speed the process on a 4 or 5 turn helix. ;D

I think you'd need a crew change before the helix to keep from going dead!    ;)

That's pretty impressive.  N-scale needs "lights out" layouts like that....we don't have many.

The Helix From Hell

Helix M, the largest on the layout, consists
of thirty-nine (39) revolutions of which
about twenty are double track and about
nine are triple track. The triple track section
adds an additional outer track to get
between Levels #3 and #2. The double
track section runs from top to bottom allowing
trains on the top level to run all the
way down to Level #1.

Um... 20 double-track plus 9 triple-track is 29...

Maybe ten levels are single track...

Good thing it's my 8-year-old taking a reading comprehension test today, and not me!

But you forgot level zero.   That must be where the single-track goes.    ;D

Train geeks are a couple of DNA strands away from computer geeks, you know.

Eh.. too much. We have a ton of hidden trackage at the club. Its a pain in the a$$. I can't imagine that many hard to reach turns, grades and switches will end well.

Give me a basic flat surface. That's all I need. When you start talking about multiple levels and mushrooms, well you can never see the whole thing at once. You can never just take in the scenery, and that's what model railroading is all about.
