Weren't these cars done by Trainworks years ago? That MP36 will end up in MBTA colors as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Seems an odd choice considering that they're only in a handful of roads, and I think only 3 or 4 widespread.

So that means, knowing Kato, we'll get the third scheme sometime around 2025.

Looks like Mr. Kato was in Chicago recently. ;)

I wonder if we'll see them in MARC.

For some reason this doesn't sound like something Kato would do.  It's way to new for me but and a big but, if they do MARC I would be mighty tempted to get a set.

I believe that technically Metra is the only purchaser of the 36...3S model. That being said, between the two 36 and one 40 models there's at least 11 roads using them I can remember off the top of my head, and hopefully over time that will grow with new commuter lines (and, personally, I'd love it if the MP body replaced Amtrak's AMDs). Also, I believe it's much less of a sin to paint the 36...3S in schemes found on the 36...3C and the 40, than it is to use the F59 body as Athearn's done.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Especially since most of the differences aren't cosmetic.

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

They're doing the Nippon Sharyo cars:

http://www.katousa.com/N/SS-Bilevel/index.html

Understandable, but it's hard to have these cars (and MP36s) without also having a mix of Budd and PS cars and F40PHMs, at least as far as Metra modeling is concerned. And couple extra coaches would be nice, at least the BNSF side runs nothing shorter than 6 cars....

Will be interesting to see how they handle the cab car lighting. A "full package" would be nice, with the Mars and flashing ditch lights. Hope the windows are tinted, too! Interior lighting with these will look pretty cool.

A little paint and decals and a nice Eastern set can be run in NorCal under CalTrain :)
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.
