Welcome to Railwire IM.

Does the available parts inventory extend to cages and etched roofwalks for covered hoppers?  If so, what is the appropriate contact info for ordering?  This would be a very valuable source of raw material for upgrading other models.

If you are fishing for new release ideas, I'd put in votes for 2-bay and 4-bay Trinity hoppers:

I would like to welcome Intermountain to Railwire, and I would particularly like to commend them for their attention to the Canadian market, which has been significant.  This includes the Canadian 40 foot boxcars, the NSC cylindrical covered hoppers, the CP bathtub gondolas, and now the CN SD40-2Ws.  I am looking forward to picking up a few of the PGE map herald boxcars.

I also commend Intermountain for their parts availability - I have occasionally ordered these for kitbashing projects.

I would like to request and suggest that you strongly consider the Procor 3300 cu ft pressure flow hopper for release in N Scale.  Your recent HO Scale models were well done and at our recent Trains show here in Vancouver there was much discussion about wanting these in N Scale.  The CN, BCOL and Halliburton cars are all needed by those of us modelling the BCR north end.

The announcement was for trough hatch CP cars. Weren't the round hatch cars the only ones used in potash/cement service? Those are the ones I'm looking for. I used to see the round hatch multi-mark cars with the "Fill line for cement" markings.

Daniel, there isn't any hard and fast rule on commoditied carried anymore, and it was probably, like all things in RRing, adhered to for about a week before it went to heck. CP loads Nephyline Syenite (silica sand like substance) on the Havelock Sub (ok, Nepthon Spur) in both trough and round hatch cars, including cars with the cement fill line. Seeing the trough hatch cars in this service threw me initially, but the fleet was too large to limit to only a few commodities. I'm all for round hatch cars in the black CP Rail image, having asked IM a few times.

Tim, I asked IM about the possibility of the pressure flows cars, aka cement tubes, about 6 months ago and the reply was "no current plans". Hopefully that will change, I could use a good number of them, if only for variety, but they also operated around my area on CN alot (CN and Procor cars).

Thanks for the M&StL box cars! Maybe some of the NH's McGuiness era designs on those short cars sometime soon? Or the big WP and Western way lettering? Or some of the C&NW large initial cars?

I'm curious about the 50-footers too. I haven't seen them around at all, even at shows.

It'd be great to get both the CB&Q single door schemes and the NYC green car again. That car's a pretty spittin' image for the NP 31500 series XM cars, the Milwaukee's 51000 series, and the dark green RI General American cars (110000 series).

Also, I remember the RI having block lettered DF loader cars that were pretty darn close to the 50' double door. They may have been ACF cars... But the double door would also be nice with the Katy's 1889 logo (99651 series) and the NYC Early Bird scheme.

We do have a variety of parts available however, some of them can be in short supply with extended wait times for their arrival.  Something like an etched metal roofwalk might not be available until we re-run the car requiring that particular piece.  If you have a specific parts request just drop an email to parts@intermountain-railway.com and we'll see what we can do.

I second both Tim's welcome to Railwire and his request for the Procor car; it's long overdue and would be well subscribed.

The IM 5277cuft boxcar is nice, but they seem to have largely ignored it lately.

I've requested that IM consider doing the F7 in the CN zebra stripe as they were amongst, if not the, last class 1 use of them. Made it to 1989 IIRC. Two A-B-A sets are on my list of needful things, and I think that they would be decent sellers.

Since Intermountain has decided to participate here, I could use an explaination for the M&StL F7s.

This is what the artwork looks like on the website.



Here's what it should look like.



And if you still can't see it:



1.  The roofs weren't painted black.  At best, there were some locomotives that didn't get their roofs repainted when the M&St.L went to the red/black scheme.  What you see in the photos is dirt. Lot's of dirt.  But since an arguement can be made and there's no clear cut solution, I'll leave it at that.

2. The lettering isn't even close to being in the right location.  First of all, it should be centered vertically.  Second, the lettering should be lined up on the rivet strip below the front edge of the rear portal.  Or, in other words, the lettering should never go under the rear portal.

3.  The herald needs to be placed with more space between it and the white strip.  It also and doesn't look to be rotated properly.

4. The 'F' should be on the sil.  At no point should it be above the black of the anti-climber.

5. At some point 407 got white numberboards, but I can find a pre-merger shot to show that.  I can say for sure that the other two numbers being produced should have black boards with white letters.


I could do the same thing with the CGW F3's.  Is this what IMR considers acceptable?

I own two CB&Q F3 A/B sets from IM, and I've just ordered two FT A/B sets.

My F3's run like a charm, and just having tested a MT FT A/B set after installing a Digitraxx decoder, I'd say, FWIW, that IM's drive is way better
(mines are equipped with Digitraxx decoders too)

Now, I would have had rather the CB&Q F3 A unit to sport the Mars light casing they had for most of their career, but I suppose
that the cost of modification would have been, manufacturing wise, too expensive to justify.
At some point, I'll try to add a Mars light casing, and I'm pretty sure this will be easier than to remove an existing one  ;D

I'm not especially bothered by some discrepancies with prototypes, but I can understand that some of us are, considering that further research,
particularly with the help of dedicated fans in RR internet boards, could have probably prevented at least some of these discrepancies.

All in all, I'd like to praise IM for offering so many paint schemes and good running engines.
Keep up the good work guys, and even if there is still room for improvement, I'd bet that
your efforts toward N scale are widely appreciated
