mmmmmm.... boxcars.

Now if IM would just do a double door and combination door 40-footer, single wider door 40-footers, and PS1 varieties in both size... Need something for the Fs to pull.

I know there were AAR 40' double 6' doors.  Were there also other door configurations?  With two manufacturers already making PS1 boxcars, and with all of the remaining potential in the AARs, that probably wouldn't be an avenue that IMRC would explore - especially with all of the current AAR variants they offer

Based on the announcement above, they finally are reissuing the NYC original scheme for the first time this century.  I'd be happy if they would reissue the New Haven script herald and offer the other four NH schemes on the car.

Athearn's are nice, but I prefer no molded on detail, hence my urging of IM to do so. MT's. fro what I understand, are off in size. HO has numerous PS1 manufacturers, why not N? (We need an Accurail in N.) I'd settle for someone making separate PS1 ends that could be used to alter other models.

I hear you.  The separate detail parts would be nice, to allow PS1 configurations specific to the prototypes.  I hadn't heard or read that the MTL cars have incorrect dimensions (other than the ride height), so I don't know how eager a manufacturer would be to release a new PS1 40' product line when all MTL has to do is tweak some tooling to add door size variations and upgrade the models to today's standards (including ride height and body mounts).  As an example, they did modify the underframe tooling a few years back to make the brake hardware free-standing.

I'm not saying that a manufacturer shouldn't consider tooling up a new PS1 product line.  I am saying that they would have to take into account that MTL could revamp its PS1 line fairly quickly, and that MTL already has the built-in 40-year-old customer base.

Also, Athearn "inherited" their PS1 line from MDC, and while they have added new sides for the additional door configurations, the tooling is unchanged from when it was under MDC ownership.

No plans yet, but we are always discussing possible new products.  I'll add this to the mix.

I haven't heard the production guys talk about it, however if you have some good reference material and/or photos send them to me and I'll get it to them for consideration.

That I did not know. I don't remember ever seeing the PS1s marketed by MDC. Like I said, they're not bad and the PS1 is actually the easiest of end configurations to remove detail from. I had the impression from past discussion that the MT car was off. I'll have to do a compare and contrast between the Athearn and MT cars and the PS1 drawings when I can dig that all out of storage.

We really do need a Detail Associates in N, with car ends, roofs, doors, etc. That's why I like IM, being kits originally they're easy to pry apart. It's certainly easier than cutting the roof or ends of an MT car, and cheaper.

Well, its the same old storey, IM announces more cylindrical covered hoppers and I buy more cylindrical covered hoppers. I'm pushing 300 of them. Cycle of life.

If IM is checking this post, please consider doing some of the CP Rail cars in the black paint without the multimark... I can provide images if required.

Do you guys have any sway over what Red Caboose is choosing in terms of scheme? I'd like to see this with improved artwork (the artwork is good by N scale standards but could use some tweaking)



I have a ton of your NW 4750s so you could say I'm a fan of those, and also trying to find more of the N&W 4650 ACF Centerflows (hamburger) but they are hard to find.

InterMountain currently does manufacturing and distribution for Red Caboose.  Red Caboose controls artwork and car selection.  If there is something specific you desire then I would guide you to contact Red Caboose directly.  Their contact information is on their website at - www.red-caboose.com .  I'm sure they would appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

In the interim though, that you can get unpainted detail parts for any IMRC N scale motive power and freight car products directly from IMRC (not sure about the passenger car products since technically they are CCS), and they are extremely reasonable in price.  So you don't have to buy the RTR cars and disassemble them for parts.  Same for Atlas and MTL, and Des Plaines Hobby has additional parts for the IRMC ARA cars. 

The nice thing about the IMRC boxcar parts is that they are interchangeable on all the models, so you can mix and match parts from the various product lines if necessary to create a prototypical model.  I always stock up on parts for future projects.

Richard, please reissue #65709 New Haven script herald.  You've just announced #65702 New York Central.  The New Haven car also dates back to the IMRC kits-only era and has been gone since that time.

Here are a few. Though the majority are trough hatch, the last car is the round hatch type. If I'm not mistaken, IM has not done the round hatch car in the black CP Rail scheme... with or without the multimark.

The announcement was for trough hatch CP cars. Weren't the round hatch cars the only ones used in potash/cement service? Those are the ones I'm looking for. I used to see the round hatch multi-mark cars with the "Fill line for cement" markings.
