Doing some more cleanup of old drawers full of stuff and came across this.  I know there are a few M&P fans here.

This is an original timetable not a reprint.

Wow, that must be one of the last ones, if not the last - passenger service stopped in '53 IIRC.

Ahh, if only those were still tracks today. Commuting into Northern Baltimore county would be a lot more fun!

Four hours to go 77 miles.  Not exactly a speed demon.  Anyone know what power they used for their passenger trains.

The also occasionally pressed a 2-8-0 into service on the passenger train.  But toward the end, it was all up to the doodlebug.

Other than the Hilton book, are there any good books out there on the Ma & Pa?

I've got the 50 Best of the Ma & Pa, a cheaply reproduced black and white photo album featuring images by Charles T. Mahon, the most prolific of the M&P's devotee's.  There's also a section on it in Jacques Kelly's Trackside Maryland book, including some truly iconic images.

In '53 most likely EMD SW. I'll take a peak in my MA & PA book when I get a chance.

Imagine it today though, with welded rail and proper grades and banks. The ABBs running back into Towson and out to the County (and through to Coppin and and downtown) would be a welcome sight and relief to the 95/695 headaches. As much as I love the NCR Trail, it's too bad lightrail couldn't run to York and Naptown on the B&A. Maryland would be the better for it. Hmmm, and while we're at it, return ferry service to the Bay and Eastern Shore rail passenger service to OC... der ya go, hon.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

The fact that the light rail uses the old NCR is actually a real shame. The NCR doesn't really serve major population centers for much of its route (ie, it's in the valley in the city, and not quick to get to in the county).

The MA&PA was right in the middle of Towson, and right in the middle of a bunch of nice parts of Baltimore (the type of neighborhood where people could use it to get downtown).

But alas, there's NO WAY it'd ever happen, so I've learned it's best to not even think about it.
