Having lived in Bel Air and worked in downtown, B'more, the M&P would have made a splendid commuter route.  Unfortunately, at the time of its demise, the conspiracy to put rubber tires under everything was in full swing.  There was brief discussion of using the M&P for a bus route, which was quickly (and properly) kiboshed by the Roland Park residents who would have had to live with that nightmare...

There are several abandoned lines that would make good commuter roads nowdays.  The B&A for example in MD and the W&OD in VA come to mind.
