My six pack just arrived - these are some of the best shells I've ever seen. I cleaned up the first shell in less than a half an hour. The pewter base is super clean and nicely weighted. I'll be cleaning up three this weekend and painting them next week.... pic's soon.

Nice work !
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Sounds encouraging! I'll look forward to seeing how they develop.

I look forward to seeing your results.  Do we know which end the models has, and whether or not there is potential for kitbashing into other versions?

The models are close enough to bash into CPR cars - GHQ's website forum has a outstanding couple of articles and pictures.

Any idea what they weigh as a finished model?

No; I don't have a scale but the "pick up an MT in one hand and the reefer in the other" test says they are close.............. you could add weight very easily.

Thank you, my concern was that the pewter car might be to heavy.

Regarding the CPR cousins ... GHQ did state that there is an article forthcoming on how to kitbash the CN cars into CP prototypes.

Well kudos to GHQ for issuing what looks like an excellent kit of a much needed prototype, but it is unfortunate that they chose a series unique to the CNR.  The second and third orders of PGE cars were tacked on to later CNR orders and were identical; the first PGE order was tacked onto a CPR order.  I will have to investigate what is required in changing the ends and doors, and whether or not it would be worthwhile.

GHQ also deserves credit for supporting their release with such good online articles.  I will be interested to see the CPR conversion article.

Trueline has revealed artwork for their HO version.  Might come in handy for those wanting to decorate the GHQ kit in a scheme other than CN gray.  It appears the only difference between the CN and non-CN cars is a plug door in place of the hinged door.

I don't know if it's the artwork, but besides being taller, the plug door cars have a couple other variations like less ladders rungs, narrower body panels and also rivets on the body.  There also appears to be something diiferent about how the hatches sit.

On the Trueline model maybe... this IS the company that didn't know where a door track went.

GHQ has a couple of articles on their forum about building these and says one is coming about modifying the n scale model into a CPR/PGE version - I for one, think that it would be a "close to" version but as we have nothing even close to a 8 hatch reefer before the GHQ kit, I'm not complaining.
