Can't handle the "money shot"...
FYI, don't get a  Nikon Coolpix L20.  It's a nice little point and shoot, but it lacks any manual settings to be useful for model photography.

I hear your pain. When my Sony F717 died, I bought an F828, a nice camera all around but really, really bad for macro work. After returning that I bought a Rebel XTI, and haven't looked back since. As an added bonus, my Sony was part of a recall and that works too.

Right now I am working on a series of photography articles for N-Scale. Finding a camera with the right features is part 1.

That's one of my hang ups.  I've got about 5 articles framed up, but can't take the damn pictures.  And with the employment situation, I really need to publish some articles, but can't afford the hardware :(

I gambled on this camera and lost.  Another $80 and I would have been set.

Lee,

If you want to borrow one, I have a Nikon D100 and tripod that I can lend for a few weeks. I'm not using it right now since I'm not traveling anywhere since I'm in the same boat as you. Be happy to drop it off later this week too (unless an in-person interview magically appears). By then I will definitely need to get outta the books and the house for a few hours, but you'll have to pay me with lunch.
