Seriously, who EVER thinks that product reviews ANYWHERE are 100% unbiased?  Can you name a product in MR reviews that wasn't also an advertiser?

I understand where you guys are coming from but I'm not sure I understand getting so bent out of shape over a couple of Walthers flyers...pretty relevant "junkmail" by the way.  Now if we're getting tons of slot car flyers, or RC, or some other irrelevant subject matter, (the Model Railroader VISA?) I can maybe see getting miffed about that.

I know, it's the principle.  And MR sucks, blah blah...

I recieve the monthly News Letter from Walthers as well as the online version. Nine times out of ten included in the hardcopy version are several insert cards including one to subscribe to MR so I'am pretty sure thete is a cooperative agreement. Nate Goodman (Nato).

First, product reviews in advertising-subsidized magazines could never be considered unbiased. That's a given.

Second, if you were getting multiple catalogs from clothing, make-up, appliance and other assorted vendors, I'd say you have room for complaint. But a single item from a subject-related source hardly constitutes a barrage of unsolicited junk mail.

Sorry, doesn't rate a rant in my book. But that's just me.

There was a time they were... MR lost Floquil as an advertiser for years over an article... I think the current staff needs to remember where the Magazine came from...

You know, I'm actually with Pud on this one.  every time you go to aska question online, you "have" to give all sorts of information just to get to the Contact Me screen.  If you want to subscribe to a magazine in hardcopy, you have to put up with all sorts of junk mail (even if its hobby related).  And heaven forbid you order something from a website with a paper catalogue . . . . Oh, and to opt out in  the U.S. you have to go to a different website and fill out a different form . . . which I think expires after a few years . . . the onus shouldn't be on the consumer but on the producer to ascertain permission.

Hum . . . carried any further and we'd violate the NO Politics Rule . . . .

Actually, I'd welcome any number of hobby catalogs in the mail compared what just happened to me this morning. eBay called me on my work line to advertise a limited-time rate reduction offer for new listings (yeah, right--doesn't even compensate for their rate hike!). Now, I'm seeing RED. This is unacceptable. I've been digging through their privacy policy to see if they have a loophole that allows them to phone-spam their customers.

Read the fine print in MR, its in there pretty clearly that they will make available your info to their advertisers.

I started getting the Walthers flyers a couple of years ago when I didn't have an MR sub but did subscribe to RMC  . . . so Carsten's does the same thing.

I recently ordered some stuff from Walthers, and renewed my MR sub (convenience more than anything else) and now get a couple of Walthers flyers a month (same ones).

New issue of MR and the latest Walthers flyer arrived yesterday. Spent more time reading the flyer than MR!

I always enjoyed getting the Walthers flyer, along with the MicroMark, etc.  Never bothered me.

At least it's relevant, and I know who gave out my name.
