I finished the clearstory on the Worcester Union station. Several of the major superstructure pieces are now glued together. One thing that really annoys me about the kit (other then everything being about 1mm off) is that much of the support and platform parts are to be cut from cardstock by the modeler.

Why cardstock? Why couldn't they just laser cut all the parts? Even if it is cardstock, couldn't they laser cut that too? The instructions are so bad that I have to cut and measure all parts about 3 times before gluing them. It takes a lot of time. I'm not talking the usually fit before you glue, but major overhaul work to parts that were built according to the instructions but don't fit because the slots/tabs were not cut correctly or corners include obstructions preventing proper fit.

There is no chance that I will be able to add an interior which is unfortunate. I have also had to reinforce all the parts.

I hope to add the building to a small layout in my office. It will be transplanted once I have a real Worcester yard to go with it.

Like I said, this was one of Russ's first kits and the quality is a little lack luster. However for such a complex project in his early stages its not that bad. I would love to see him re-run the kit with his now much more advanced equipment and manufacturing skills.

If paint the foreground trees a gray/brown color, and get them and the track in focus using Helicon, this photo would be excellent.   Something about the light and shadows on the building scream "real".

Thanks, Tom. Have not tried Helicon, yet. Most of the pictures I take are just to check and see where I am and what needs more work, so there' not much effort as far as lighting, etc. Would appreciate suggestions from anyone on the right paint color for the trees. I try to spray the trunks with a brown rattle can, but some manage to escape.

Most of my layout is 24" deep. This area is a branch that I tried to cram in a corner and the shelf is only 12" wide, yet I kept the same overhead lighting.

Reading Company Standard Tower from N Scale Architect. I replaced the cast stairs with plastruct stairs, and the lousy paper tar paper with some I did with photoshop.
