Model 10/10, Photoshopping 7/10.  Passing grade but needs the attention to detail the other image got...

Thanks for the feedback, but what's missing? It looks like all of the grilles and healights are there to me. ???

Built an overpass out of an old atlas deck bridge, and a timber retaining wall.

Careful
inspection of the trailing unit reveals the radiator grille split in half with scenery on the right side showing through.  Only the left (gyralight) side is seen while you miss the emergency signal and headlight above the radiator.  Also note the 'blue' stanchions on the right side of that trailing SW1500...

Jason, Prototype is Trailer Train 89ft 4in numbered 100000 - 106000. These would have been with the TTX reporting marks. IIRC, there were many roads with this car.

Tivo, will try to get them in. What size?

BTW, MSRP will be about $29 and they will come in undecorated.  ;D

That doesn't really identify the car, but it may not matter.  If that's the series you are doing, it's too new for the '60s since the cars in that series with TTX marking were 85' cars.

Not much for me this week with family in town, but I did get a new railing made for my SD-7.




I also decided to go with #301 which means new style EMD markers.  I don't know how I'm going to make them yet.  I may just end up with little blobs like the Atlas GPs.  I did get some work done on the VO1000m, but nothing to really take a pic of, just the removal a some molded detail.

I haven't done any modeling this week, as I've been visiting my parents for Thanksgiving.  I realized that I've mentioned my father a few times, and I thought I might share a few photos off of his layout.  With that, welcome to the Colorado and Southern Clear Creek Canyon, c. 1899!  Apologies in advance, this is not N Scale, it's G.

Miner Street, Idaho Springs


Another view of Miner Street, including Abel's Bakery.


Barrels of beer are loaded at the Tommyknocker's brewery, established 1894.  The real Tommyknockers was established in 1994, and is definitely worth the stop in Idaho Springs.  My father knows the artist who designed their logo, so he was able to get decals for this boxcar and wagon.


Ore is hauled out of the mine.


Then processed and loaded into waiting gondolas.  This is a scratch built structure based on the Hukill Mine outside of Idaho Springs.


Finally, it is hauled to the stamp mill.  This is also a scratch built model loosely based on the Argo Mill in Idaho Springs.  C&S #2, pictured here, has been in our household for as long as I can remember.  Before being converted to battery power for this layout, it used to run under our Christmas Tree as D.,S.P.,&P #17, congdon stack and all.


An Ely Thomas logging crew loads timber onto skeleton cars.


The timber is processed at the lumber mill and then loaded onto flatcars.

you may be able to do some scaling magic from linked photos.  Every flat would need these since they never actually leave the car but drop into those big slots on the deck.  This could be a major oragami project for fools like me but could also be an incredible extra superdetail for those who choose the trailer option but can put IBC details on with just a bit of glue after freeing the 'end stop' (that lays atop the deck when stowed) from the foldable piece. 

In my mind I'm picturing an etched end/side stop thats a single fold blocked around something to recreate the container support base "H".  I really can't picture in my mind the appearance of the outside IBC latch.  Probably looked at these 10,000 times but I'm feeling seriously old and cranky tonight...

I have decided to leave N-scale for the glorious world of HOn3. I have roughly 8' by as much as 4' to build something. A simple loop sounds nice, but with a maximum of 4 feet width to work with that might be too tight for my personal comfort, though the engines may allow it.

I might ultimately go with a shelf layout, which can be disconnected in the middle to ease transporting.

Tomorrow is my weekend, so I am going to work on designs and narrowing down my era.

I see Blackstone freight cars in my immediate future!

Your dad has a FANTASTIC layout!  I've been to Idaho Springs (I was an HOn3-er once upon a time) and he nailed the overall layout of the town and the Argo Mill very well.  Also, I love that it looks like a scale model railroad and not a bunch of toy-like brass track.  It looks very realistic.

Hey guys,

Took one of the new MT RPO's and repainted it for MILW.  Put the early 40's paint job on it and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  The one door is too small, but it is a pretty good stand in.

I also replaced couplers with Z scale ones.  There was way too much space between cars with the stock ones.

The sequence of buildings from left to right is the Colorado Hotel, Underhill Mine Survey Co., a restaurant, a grocery store, and a drug store, just as Miner St. was in 1899 (the buildings are still there today).  The rest of the buildings range from freelanced to representative of other buildings in Idaho Springs.  Some artistic license and selective compression has been used, but I agree that he has captured the look and flavor of the town quite nicely.  I'm sure that is due in no small part to the authentic sifted Colorado dirt, fresh from Dumont.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed that you of all people didn't comment on Abel's Bakery, Charlie.  ;D
