Weekend Update - 11-29-2009

Guess I'll start the festivities................

I started another Geoff Gooderham resin shell; this one a somewhat rare Canadian Pacific smoothside RPO-Express car of the 3614-3648 series.

I'm about half way complete - I still have underside, proper trucks; couplers, glass and some details to finish but it looks like something at this stage.....



...and it's too clean....

Nothing accomplished on the layout; still recovering from the big push for the open house. About all I managed was to photograph and measure some new Z scale products. Here's AZL's revised roller bearing truck, featuring their new 36-inch wheelsets.

Interesting to see the proto photo and your model of the RPO car as I am currently working on one of those for my Prince George Auxiliary, but I have to convert it from a 3600 series car to a 3700 series which means moving doors and windows.

This week I have had to deal with a flood in my living room which originated from an apartment two floors up.  (Is this payback for joking about Puddy's fascination with water and model trains?)  I was very lucky - just a wet carpet - but have had to move a lot of furniture and books so I am in a real mess at present.  The roar of the dryers and de-humudifiers has driven me to the bedroom to work on the layout.  The helix continues to run well with the recently-installed bus wires and temporary DC power:




It was time to try connecting the DCC system, which consists of a Magna Force power supply and Lenz Set 90:




This gave my decoder-equipped C-425s an opportunity to stretch their legs on the helix for the first time:



The helix operates equally well on DCC so I can now proceed with terminating the bus runs and finishing the wiring job.

Finished the artwork for the 89'4" TOFC. Just waiting on Russ to send a sample of his hitches so I can incorporate his design into the car. Here's a kit preview:

Bob, Those both look fantastic!

NO trains for me - I worked off the turkey coma by taking advantage of a sunny weekend to fix 23 linear feet of facia and reinstall a gutter that came crashing down when said facia checked lengthwise - mostly from being wet due to the lack of a proper drip edge under the shigles. The drip edge is now installed as well.

HOpefully back to trains tonight or tomorrow.

Besides the two Pacifics the B&M painted patriotically blue, buff, and red in the 1920's, they also turned out two Pacifics in a two-toned green livery, naming them "Yankee" and "Flying Yankee".  They were assigned to pre-diesel Flying Yankee service between Boston and Bangor ME.  I've got to move the bell and figure out a way to turn that slightly too large white herald gold.

this car looks tempting  ;D   For which roads can it be used?
Not sure about the flat car, all I know is the old Atlas/Rivarossi/Arnold/etc. flat car, or the Red Caboose car.
I just ordered some more Ford Fairlanes, just in case, as my dealer has a special sale on them.

Model 10/10, Photoshopping 7/10.  Passing grade but needs the attention to detail the other image got...

Could you be more specific than 89' flat car?  Or is this just a generic car with no prototype?  Also, not all 89' cars were TOFC, is there something specific about this car?
