Never had any problems over the years. None.

Lee, the "Kato Guys" must be reading all your posts, and are just giving you "special" service. ;D

Heh, I slam Kato often, but I've never had problems ordering parts. Then again Kato hasn't really been making stuff I want parts for in some years, or the parts I want are NLA.

Let's go with Ed's theory.

I had no problem ordering the part, it was the reaction I got when I dared called and complained about how badly they  packed it for shipping.

I trust that in the coming days I shall receive a replacement that is properly encased in a lead block, wrapped in bubble wrap, and packed in an oversized box brimming with foam peanuts!

I called Kato for some technical support for an intermittent short problem I was having with an N scale GS-4 I bought from MB Klein. The person at Kato essentially said "Hmmm, that's why I model HO". WTF?

MB Klein was amazing, however. Their first response was to ship another one along with a box with prepaid shipping for returning the defective unit. All I had to do was drop it off at UPS.

The new one arrived and it was perfect.

Superior service.

Several years back I ordered a steamer from one etailer and it arrived dead in the box. When I told the guy he basically told me it was my problem.

In all fairness, I should say that I think Kato makes some truly inspired stuff. Their quality is exceptional.

I've ordered parts from Kato probably 5-6 times and the parts could have been put in an envelope, but they were is a nice over sized box and stuffed full of Japanese newspapers. Never had to call about parts. I did call once about the crappy drivers on the first run of the Mikado.

I've only ordered from them once: a shell and a windshield glass set.  It arrived quickly and was well packed.  In fact, it came with a $26 F-unit motor that I didn't order.  That may come in handy some day.

I feel your pain ! I live about a 20 minute ride from Kato and have the pleasure of just going there to pickup parts.

Or get on to them about their QC and warranty slipping, in person. Digitrax is about an hour away now so, I can drop off all the decoders I got from them that were DOA and they didn't want to replace via warranty.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

I always get someone in Tokyo who speaks broken English ,but seems to understand me,when I say I want SAL (Surface Air Link) shipping not the expensive express air and they convet Yen to U.S. dollars, in about four weeks I have my parts. Of course they are for Japanese equipment not United States, and no you can not order items off their Japanese Web Site, you would have to go through Japanese hobby shops like Plazza Japan, but if you have their Telex (phone number) I have obtained parts several times.                                                                                                                                     Nate Goodman (Nato).

I have always had great service and great phone interaction.  I have had several calls where I just got to pick their brains and got some great ideas.  Of course outside of the Pennsy I model all railroads Chicago and west!  Isn't WM pretty far east???

That must have been it.  It would be blaspheme for their sacred red handrails to be used on something other than a Santa Fe warbonnet...

The red handrails were for Canadian Pacific SD40's were they not....  :)
