I sure hope that we see some modern Woodchip cars soon. I see that Walthers has re-released their HO scale model !

I thought that was the trigger for Walthers to manufacture a model in N, popularity/sales figures in HO? Personally, I think Walthers is full of hooey, but some people seem to think they're still a viable N scale company.

It might be an MSRP $30+ car though.   Short rosters, limited roadnames, modified MTL trucks and CSX license fees.  There is a strong possibility this will get leap-frogged by another ESM model before it appears, we'll see.

Wow, that is a nice looking car.  Was this flatcar also used by the NYC?  I seem to recall a thread about this a while ago.  If it was used by the NYC, how about a Penn Central or Conrail repaint?  Are those in the realm of possibility?  Thanks.

I know a couple of modeelers down here in Georgia that would have a strong interest a couple of those cars. Since C&O only had 5, no need for a massive fleet.

It's a beaut. I'll spring for one for run through to ATSF interchange, since it's so interesting. It would be nice to have it in WM or NYC paint if it was a prototype for them.  I thought maybe the F-9 you spoke of was the ATSF 56' flat classified as such. But only a partial bummer. I hope it sells well and keeps ESM making more releases.

Yes, it was used by the NYC - they had two of them.  If/when we proceed with this car, we will be doing every road and every paint scheme that ever appeared on the car that we know of.  This includes PC and CR.

C&O actually had six, two of which were sold early to NYC.  They also had the longer F-10 of similar design (of which we won't be doing), but I don't know how many.

Two C&O paint schemes, the one above and the "for progress" logo.  They lasted to Chessie but not to CSX (or NS) as far as I know, so the fleet never was "reunited" under the CSX banner.  Remember, ESM concentrates on eastern prototypes, so any western road releases are unlikely unless the model has a strong eastern heritage.  Not impossible, but unlikely.

While this car obviously is much shorter than the G26, there will be track radii restrictions due to the F-9 sitting low on the Buckeyes.  Looks like it will be a minimum of 11".  That's the reason we'll never do the F-10 - the minimum radius wouldn't be practical for most modelers.  I'm very glad that other manufacturers are pushing forward with body-mounts, which makes it easier to introduce these types of models.

Have to get through all the State of Maine variations first and, if we're fortunate, more of the G26.  LV is next for the gons, pilot pics will be posted in a new thread later tonight.

As far as modern woodchip cars go, what is wrong with the Deluxe cars (except availability)?

Athearn has the repurposed 3 bay hopper / wood chip cars coming for the older eras.  I saw some the other day heading into Queensgate Yard crossing the bridge over the Ohio River. The Athearns were definitely close enough to fill in for what I saw.
