As the list of available mass produed cars that have not been produced in nd dwindles, mfg's will be forced to do less common or road specific cars. This has already begun. I would love to see some road spectic vans (cabooses) does... CN Pte. St. Charles and CP EV vans would be nice. If someone did those CP 81' and 85' COFC flats, I'd think I died and went to heaven

I may be wrong....but I think that this poll is non-binding.  I'm just happy that five other people think we need more 40' plug door boxcars!

In my work experience, these kind of list making exercises typically exclude what actually happens.

There are lots of varieties of coal hoppers from this time frame, but somehow the manufacturers can't get enough of coal porters and top gons.

Only one manufacturer has done a TopGon... as opposed to four (well... thre now) having done the same Coalporter...

If you'd like to see a car done, do some research (and not some half-assed look at these photos I culled from the internet crap) and submit it to the manufacturer of your choice...

MORE (coal) hoppers - now from Bluford, to add to the mix.

I sure hope that we see some modern Woodchip cars soon. I see that Walthers has re-released their HO scale model !

Why do you consider the Bluford coal hoppers to be a bad thing?  They are two prototypes that never have been represented in N, and certainly not with that extra level of detail.  And, aren't there a number of woodchip cars already on the market?

Yes I know, I am one of those who has helped. Some people have made it known that they feel manufacturers should do their own research etc.
I enjoy offering up information to manufacturers, they can use it or file it, but they have it !

I do not consider it  a bad thing ?  We do have a lot of coal hoppers on the market to choose from, and the bluford model will add nicely to that mix.

No -  there are not many Modern woodchip cars on the market, like the greenville (HO Walthers) style or a number of like styles as used in the southeast. We do have the deluxe model and the announced Athearn model. This seems to be an area in N scale that is open for development, are you interested ?

We could use more ..

Hi Steven,
Sadly, there is no one design of high capacity wood chip hopper that more than a couple of railroads own. Either the rib counts are wrong, or the fancy pleating in the side sheets are different or the number of bays, or overall length...  You get the idea. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. Just because someone did one in HO doesn't mean its commercially viable in N (or was in HO for that matter!) Sorry to be a downer but that's the story.

There are alot of Coal Hopper choices....and covered hopper choices on teh market. That is to be expected since the the ratio of Coal Hopeprs to Woodchip cars is somewhat close to an order of magnitude. Same just with Grain Hoppers.

Woodchip hoppers used to be a very regional car type but in recent years they have been showing up in trash hauling all over the place it seems. I'd say bring on the Greenville Woodchip Car, just haven't heard squat about anybody planning one.

I have to admit that of all the esoteric equipment out there to produce models of, woodchip cars wouldn't be high on my list.  ESM released an esoteric car this year in the G26, and two more are following in the form of the XIH and F-9.  The company is doing its part, and will continue to as long as the support is there.
