Did anyone happen to go past the guy that sells Russian railroad models?  Took a quick look while passing and thought I saw some N stuff there.  The HO equipment is somewhat interesting and there might be some possibilities for kitbashing in both HO and N.

I finished the first trestle on the O layout using some brick "plasticard" from the guy that sells British detail parts. Does anyone remember who he is?  I think he is from Aberdeen, MD. I need to order more.

Me. MARRS was running its HO layout this time. I went up to help with setup Friday night, and came back Saturday morning. I ended up leaving around noon because I wasn't feeling well, and ended up spending the rest of the (3-day) weekend kinda semi-conscious. (I'm feeling better now.)

What little I saw of the show looked okay to me--as others have mentioned, it seemed a bit light, but not distressingly so. The parking lot was astonishingly empty when I arrived; I came in right about 9:00 Saturday morning and was still able to park behind the swine-judging pavilion. But I think that's because there weren't any other events at the fairgrounds that morning, which is a bit unusual. (There was an Oktoberfest event, but it wasn't scheduled to start until 1PM.)

Lack of stinky train show gazer's must have meant the air was clear in MD over the weekend. They
will all be at FIRST FROST in Allentown in November.

Yes, I had a brief chat with him. He is importing a bunch of N scale Russian prototype freight cars. He said locos were on the way. I think he said the HO stuff has stopped coming in, but I don't recall exactly. Apparently it was a sore subject with him.  His HO layout was featured in MR a few years ago.

We discussed the possibility of modeling the WWII period as Russia used a lot of US equipment on Lend Lease. If you watch the movie Soldier's Ballad, you'll see the protagonist riding several trains with US prototype equipment in view from the Lend Lease program. The movie was made in the USSR right after the war and they used the real stuff. It's a good movie too, even if a bit heavy handed.

The CRHS table was near the couple with the terrain product. Someone from BANTRAK bought some. I'm curious how it works out for her.

She did notice something interesting though. Apparently it's made for "home use", and can probably be had somewhere else (like a Lowes) for much cheaper.

I hate to undercut someone who's bringing something new to the hobby, so I'm hoping they're not marking it up too much, but I'll be checking it out.

I had similar thoughts immediately after seeing the price was $13.50 or $15 for the bag (volume discount). But I listened as the lady was mentioning they were sole distributors in the US (this is a Canadian product). Maybe they distribute to the chain home improvement stores, maybe to AC Moore/Michael's. Worth the trip to see if it is there as it should be much less to buy that way.

I just got back!

My first thought on Friday setup was O.M.G. Where are the vendors? This IS the October show, right ? Did I get caught in a worm hole and got put back to the summer show?? HUGE open expanses! I like and admire Howard, but the show has steadily declined. Saturday's crowd was less than last years Sunday attendance. Sunday was just plain empty! He really needs to eliminate the April and Summer show to build up enthusiasm and desire. I suggested that he get other manufacturers to attend. Sadly, the decline I have noticed over the last four years will force this to be the last Timonium show for me until Howard changes things around. Not worth two days of driving each way.

Sales were what I deem as marginal, but I did get to see quite a few people from RailWire. And Ed at least three times! Funny, I did realize that his visits did coincide with a putrid bacon smell, but I dismissed that as just being in the Cow Palace.
