Finally got the last loco I've wanted for the BYR (an FA-2) for 60 clams (it was an AB set). Found a "Maryland Midland" GP-38. And picked up an HO NE Caboose in WM Circus. I pretty much nailed the items I was hoping to find at the show, mission success!

Didnt realize the CRHS was there, found Ed -twice although not enough to get me to join the Big Blue Chasers Anon. the CRHS had a very very good setup, they only need an HO modular contingent to be on par with those WM guys  ;D

Also saw some regulars, Ron Hoover, Don Kalkman and Carl with his son among others.

Overall the show was up from it's lowpoints over the summer, but it was lacking some of the bigger vendors such as Scenic Express. As for the finds/deals, up from the past couple of years but still thin, more luck than gaurantee. Stopped by Kleins after Blitz-ing the show and that was a mad house.

Like The S., I stopped by the show today and chatted it up with Ed K.  I also wasn't assimilated into the CRHS collective... yet.

I didn't manage to find any real steals at the show, although I admit that I did the tour of the floor in record time.  So, I headed over to MBK, where I picked up the last N scale Walthers Western Maryland RS2 for $35.99!  Nice.  I'm sure that it will be welcome at Lee's from time to time.  Guess I need a WM caboose now.

Like everyone else I saw Ed (he sure moves around).  Picked up a PRR H30 Covered Hopper from TrainCat.  Only other things I got were some magazines and a couple books.  Stopped by Klein's and picked up another ESM hopper (PC) and a Rapido coach (PRR).  I did think that for an October show the attendance was way down.

I spotted Ed too, and Tim, though I didn't get top say hi as he was moving away at a high rate of speed.

Had a nice chat with Bob Knight. He had lots of his goodies on display. He even showed me the scorpion bite that has not fully healed. Ouch.

BANTRAK had some nice oNeTRAK modules on display. The legs of their oNeTRAK modules look like a big trestle bridge, which I find very cool.

I didn't buy any N Scale stuff, but I did get lots of scale lumber and detail parts for my O Scale ACW layout. The Crusader people were very nice.  The tin plate side of the show was very small, maybe three or four vendors.

Howard Zane has a new book out about his life. Scotty Mason was in the far corner with videos and his new kit. near where MBK usually is but wasn't today. Chuck Pravlik was there selling his line of steel mill parts. He has some good stuff. He just came out with a N Scale Basic Oxygen Furnace. That would make a great addition to an N scale layout.

Attendance looked light, but vendors said things were going well.

I got there late but still filled my bag.  Started off with some 72 lpi chain from Traincat (to finish a spine detailing project) and drooled over his other wares.  Two Kato locos from Tex N Rails (modern western stuff) and a ~10 cars from misc vendors, ranging from an old Roundhouse reefer and Con-Cor funnel-flow tanker (plus a GMM detail kit) to some IM hoppers.  By 4 pm it was pretty dead, but still worth the trip.

What a whirlwind. These things are usually so nuts.

I found a decent deal on a CR 90tonner ($5), but more importantly, I found out that Tex-N-Rails had the eluse 176-4900... the undecorated SD40-2 Snoot nose.

After putting 4+ hours of run time on my newly completed SD40-2 (pics soon, I hope...) I now have the parts to do two more.

On the short drive home, I also realized that maybe instead of doing MG tower on a module, I should do the Cresson helper terminal. I do have 4 SD40s, an SD35, an SD45, and soon 3 SD40-2s... Now I just need to be on the lookout for some bargain basement SD45-2s to fix and I really WOULD have the whole frigging helper pool.

As usual, it was great to see everyone I did. One of the best parts of these shows is getting a chance to see so many friends, even if only briefly.

Did anyone check out the table with the couple demo'ing the new terrain product? It is made for applying to walls to give a heavier texture than paint with sand. It erys very thin, applied over the mesh used for patching wallboard.

Feature is has is it can be reworked by mixing with water which will bring it back to a "batter" consistency. Comes in colors or can be dyed or painted.

They had big bags of it, but it seemed a mite pricey.

One was able to move around at the show. Not as many folk as usual in attendance.

Like everyone else, also made it a doubleheader and journey up I 83 to the next exit for MBK. They are going bonkers and after one expansion, contemplating having to do more. Just hope they can stay in the same area if they have to move.

The CRHS table was near the couple with the terrain product. Someone from BANTRAK bought some. I'm curious how it works out for her.

She did notice something interesting though. Apparently it's made for "home use", and can probably be had somewhere else (like a Lowes) for much cheaper.

I hate to undercut someone who's bringing something new to the hobby, so I'm hoping they're not marking it up too much, but I'll be checking it out.

 ;D ;D ;D  Seriously, I love that locomotive!  I got real lucky, too, because I bought it at the store on the Timonium show weekend rather than online, so I got an additional 10% off the sale price of $39.99.  That's $35.99!  Other than struggling to get the shell off without damaging any details, the DCC decoder dropped right in and worked perfectly the first time.  Not only was it inexpensive, but it runs great!  I didn't even have to regauge the wheels, which is something that I have had to do to just about every locomotive that I've bought to get them to run smoothly through my Atlas Code 55 turnouts.

It really won't take much twisting of the arm to get me to run Western Maryland equipment.  I already have several WM freight cars.  I just need a WM caboose now, which I couldn't find at the show or at Kleins.

Yup, you heard right. I now work as senior staff at CBO and they don't permit pay for articles along with a lot of other restrictions, but royalties on books are OK.  My next book is due in March 2010 from Kalmbach on steel mill modeling.  I am thinking about another book, but right now I am concentrating on trying to finish my O scale civil war layout. I'd love to do a book on ACW modeling, but the publishers are not too psyched for that idea.

I finished the first trestle on the O layout using some brick "plasticard" from the guy that sells British detail parts. Does anyone remember who he is?  I think he is from Aberdeen, MD. I need to order more.
