Thanks, Chuck!  The VC presently resides with Brian Carhart (RockGp40) on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (about 1 1/2 hours south of where I live), where he has probably flattened the scenic divider and planted acres of model cornfields on the layout to run his Rock Island equipment.   ;D  Because I'm planning on moving in with my fiancee some time in the near future, I had to give up the layout.  It just won't fit into her townhome.  I'm hopeful that this 2' x 3' layout will fit.  Heck, at this point, I can slide it under a bed, if necessary.

Anyway. Instead of following the lines on the interstate till my brain ran out my ears like last weekend, i spent this one over at CV.

First up, i lifted intact the regular atlas long left that previously occupied this spot, and replaced it with a handlaid double-slip:


After i got it working mechanically with the tortoises, i reused the atlas left by cutting it into the adjoining mainline. Add wiring, panel switches, and ballast:


While the glue was drying on that, i got the first chunk of passenger-station platform deck installed, using 1/8" luan ply:


I've found that the best way to get really clean edges that match the track curve is to attach a dremel saddle to a freight car floor, then zip along the oversize piece with a router bit:

... Also put 36" on an Atlas 60 autoparts boxcar and 36" on a Bluford 86' car. I find the 36" FVM's look too big on the boxcars, but is that because they should be 33" or because the cars need lowering? ...

Both models should be riding on 33" wheels.

Funny!  It's known that my former door layout was converted from a C&O layout to a Rock Island layout when I gave it to Brian Carhart a few months ago.  Now you want ME to model the Rock, too!  Ha ha!  Is bankruptcy blue the Dark Side?  Or is it the Borg, and I'm being assimilated?

My first N scale layout was 2x4' back in 1969 (Postage Stamp) from Aurora. Loved
it, simple, loop with a siding. 2x3 rules Dave!

O Scale... That figures.  I was getting all excited about an N Scale BB-1.  Oh well...
