If I had the bones, I'd be in for 4 of those 5 packs...  Just to help Mark out with sales volume so they do them again soon!

Could a re-run of WM H-14/15's be far in the future?

I am extremely surprised and happy to see the Red Owl Foods tractor/trailer combo. My dad had a second job with them when I was growing up to help make ends meet for our family. He stocked shelves back in the day when you had to manually stamp all the cans with the price. This will be a great reminder of his work ethic for my kids and I.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Hmm, looks like they ignored my detailed emails and decided to letter these for Class H10 ... ::)

The hopper body is a better match for the H2a. Oh well, either way it's a stand-in but why did I waste my time explaining to them the difference in the end sheet slopes?

But let's say we roll with the H10 class ... the artwork looks very good!

SOMEBODY needs to tell Athearn that the H10 class was 34000-41999 (the artwork shows #279072 for the 1963 scheme and #76501 for the 1951 scheme). Hopefully the actual production will have the correct number series, but ...

(number series in the artwork happen to be from the ex-NKP offset hoppers (279072) they did, and the H-34 VGN hoppers N&W completed in 1960 (76501) - so hopefully it's the artist being lazy and the production models will be correct)

I'm gonna try to talk to someone at Athearn via phone - I hope it's not too late.

Mark

Why are there consolidated stencils on these schemes from the 1950s and 1960s?

Cause they're actually mid-70s schemes?

They probably used 1970s pix (hence the stencils from shopping). ::)

Apparently my emails to Craig Walker got filed in the virtual cylindrical file.

or be careful what you wish for?

Maybe they can fix it but I've been sending them emails every year since 2005 so I'm skeptical about them listening ...

Anyway, here's the old MDC tooling:

N&W H2a:

N&W H10:

Note the angle on the end slope sheets on the H10 compared to the H2a or the MDC model.

Since Athearn seems to have put the money on the H10, I sent them links to some builder's photos:

Can someone tell me when the old Norfolk & Southern first started using the scheme with the red N over the black S ?

Thanks
Mark

That's a tough one, maybe Iain can tell us. ;D

Someone here should know:

http://www.norfolksouthernhs.org

Note that they have a yahoo group - this may be a good way to get the info.

Here's a pic from 1963 with that scheme:

Looks like the model is too long for the prototype of both the H2a and the H10.
