I see a SD40-2W from IM announced.  Will this be a new mechanism, or the same as the tunnel motor?  Thoughts?

I am almost certain it will be the SD45-2 mechiism.

Who cares? It'll probably be missing something like dynamic brake fans, or the cab will be on upside down.

Seriously. IM, has yet to truly impress me on the diesel front.

the F units are pretty sweet... (sure beats the late 1980's Kato tooling)

That being said I'm sure these will blow...  ::)

I don't know, the F units had that whole B unit issue, plus I've heard a number of people complaining about their ride height (which I also think is a touch high too).

But the SD40-2 is the first time I'm going to really have a horse in the race, and I am NOT liking the odds. Not one bit.

True but they made good on the B units free of charge... and IM's nose profile is alot closer then Kato's.

Personally I'm disappointed they're doing the SD40-2... the SD45-2 was a loaf...

Free of charge, and 2 years later...

I see the possibility of this in the future:

Since they are doing the SD40-2W and I model CN, I have to believe that this will be the greatest locomotive ever produced in N. I understand that may be pie in the sky, but I have to believe... because otherwise I'll cry.

Scott Lupia polished a few turds and got a nice pair of EL SD45-2's out of it, I hope I can do the same with the SD40-2W. I only ever planned for a fleet of four SD40-2W's, so this isn't as bad as IM doing the GP40-2L!

I will buy the four zebra stripe SD40-2W's. Crazy or not, I do applaud and support Mfg's that produce Canadian specific models as often as I can. Yes there is the possibility they may not be all that accurate or even very good, but that being the case, they still would make a great base upon which improvements could be made.

I'm sure they will, given I've actually seen them, but then I don't know what style of door handles should have been used on the loco so maybe it's a total loss! ;)
