Have the few that even bothered to log in today got anything interesting to report? Sure been a quiet Sunday...

Over the last two weeks of being stuck pretty much at home with my @#$$@! leg problem I have managed to put together a brewery for the Northhill section.

"Stratton" Brewing was an original industry from the mid 1990's version of the Puddington Valley....





It was one of the first DPM buildings I ever built and one of the first "kit mingling" attempts I ever did.....

Time; moving across Canada; marrage; a new house and a couple of floods killed the first (and second, and third....) PVR's - whatever could be saved was for one day when....

Well, one day came.........

The new Stratton Brewery is a bash/mingle/scratchbuild of the original DPM building; a Walthers kit; some scratch built section, two resin cast buildings an heaven knows what all..... It had to fit into a pre determined footprint and was limited in the size and shape it could occupy....





The caustic soda tanks are the tubes those little mico brushes come in.... (snicker)



The center section was designed to show off the craft brewing tanks; much like many micro breweries like to do....





The "Stratton homestead" is right beside the brewery; the old manor house and barn now act as a reception hall; offices and of course, tasting room for some of their fine brews..... The park and house add some local flavour to the scene I think.

I still have to make decals for some Stratton tracks and add a few details behind the brewery but it now is a major line side industry, the siding capable of handling three 50' box cars and tank cars for the caustic tanks....

Not much accomplished here. Been a crazy-busy work week.

I have been working on an old Wheels Of Time RPO kit . This had a bad warp which being held to a ridged 3/4" square tube for about a year finally appears now to be fairly straight . Given that WOT is going to make UP head end cars , I decided to bash this into a MOW crane support car . I have a few more warts to add to this MOW boss's office / coffee , tea , soup , and cookies / bathroom / stores and supplies / second crew bunk car . Some UP mow passenger cars had roofwalks , even some Harriman's . So I stole that idea for this Wyoming & La Grande car . I added Gold Metal Models stirrups as the Wheels Of Time ones were so flimsily that they broke with the slightest flexing that will inevitably happen when using boxing gloves to work on the car . I added a rack under the floor for the gang to put down a coffee cup on a hot day , or to put their gloves and or small tools before going in to wash , eat , or take a nap . It could also be extended with a plank to form a table , and utilized with lawn chairs stored in the car . I thought that car would be a pain to access easily with stirrups , and steps would be nice . Being that the car had no way to fit end doors on the side , I decided that I would turn this into a center hall ranch on wheels . Gold Metal Models heavyweight steps were slotted in place . I still have to fishbelly the sill at that area as I think that type of strengthening would have needed to be done with more that 2/3rds of the floor removed for the steps . I wanted to ACC the roof to the side/end/floor casting to reduce any future warping , but doing so would milky white the windows . I needed to come up with plan B .The roof now is held in place with 6 screws from under the floor . I still have a way to go with under floor crap and cleanup , but this is coming along and thought a pre-paint view and description would be interesting to the many bashers here .

I would say mild for an October show.  Although gas prices have come down (I paid $2.849 per gallon today as compared to $3.999 pr gallon a few months ago), I would guess that the falling stock market and the not-so-great economy have curtailed spending for some people.

Well, I managed to spend a small fortune on more trees for my layout, only to find that I STILL DON'T HAVE ENOUGH!  It's my own fault, because I never had the motivation or the time to build hundreds and hundreds of Super Trees.  Oh well.  Next up will be to add underbrush and other foliage to create the transition to the forest.  I also plan to tweak the Noch fir trees (I bought them yesterday at the Timonium show at a relatively inexpensive price and mixed them in to help fill in the woods) by trimming these trees to eliminate their perfect conical shape and perhaps reflocking them to tone down the contrast to the rest of the trees.

The addition of the grain elevators makes the brewery really look good, Mike.  In fact, it's caused me to have a powerful thirst all of a sudden!
Dave, I have 8 million red sedum stems and a bunch of butterfly bush flowers in the garage... You could slip down here one Saturday and I can help you make whatever you need.  Just bring some ground foam in the colors of your choice and a couple cans of matte acrylic spray.
Oh, and we can "fix" that cat on your new engine, too...
Nothing to report from here... I'm trying to get motivated to tear out some more plaster tomorrow...  It's the first time I've been off on Columbus day in my entire professional career!

Now I need to figure out the interesting shade of bcr the these cars had.

We have a number of through waybills for Beer for our Insulated-Heated (XMIH) cars on the club layout. (CPR Sudbury, 1970s) I don't think beer was typically shipped in non-insulated cars like the regular ones currently spotted at your brewery though.

I think I remember an older thread where you showed some nicely weathered yellow CP XMIH boxcars.

I can't take any credit for this work (well, other than some of the detail parts), but I figured you all might like to see work done by a local modeling friend of mine - Henry Baez.

This model started as an undecorated Kato SD40, and as you can see, Henry did a LOT of work to the model.  Some of the parts used include:

Also, Henry spent a lot of time during the painting/decalling of this model.  If you look closely, you'll notice that he painted the wheels a rust color, added a black ring around the class lights, added appropriate labeling all over the engine, painted the end rails white, painted the fuel tank/MU detail red, and more!

Jason that sky and the trees in that picture looks to be color shifted a tad blue . I wouldn't use the color of that car as gospel .

Yeah but the cars next to aren't as red and I have another photo that sort of confirms the red hue. (photo used with knowing who's it is, please contact me if you know)

I may look at offering some decals for sale/trade now that I know there is a source for white ink even if it's not cheap.  I'll let you know.  I'll tell you now that I fudged the font on dimi data but at 2" high, it wasn't worth time to draw for one car.  I'm also not sure about the end numbers, but they just don't appear to fit if they're on top of one another..
