Looks like a phase 2 since it has door louvers. I'd let Tom slide.

Is that the only 'major' hood diffrence between phase 2??

I think this unit is more than worthy of one of my undec NW2.

The BLMA doors come with generic louvers.

Assuming were still talking about the Union RR unit.

It's not a phase II, a phase II doesn't have hood louvers.  It's a phase V which doesn't have the stepped hood like the Kato.  It has a tapered hood like the LL SW units.

Yes I/we are talking about the UNION RR unit.

I'm at work so I just pulled up a pic of the Kato unit, for comparison.

Yes the slope at the 'rear' of the hood is 'different'. It also seems there are 'hatches' at the front as well. ( on the Union unit)

This Union unit is really 'growing ' on me.

Before I google and get 1,000,000 hits for UP stuff, does anyone know of any good resources anyone  for Union RR info etc?

Thank you in advance

Try "Union Railroad" in quotes. There's a bit more info, including this summary: http://www.trainweb.org/pt/union.html

Another question about this unit/road:

Is this a previous paint scheme of UNION?
(I saw other units in the same color)

OR

Does anyone know if they bought some units from another road.
(if so which)

And does anyone make their logo etc. (decal) in N?

Thanks again

The Union RR roster information I have is from 1973. The URR did acquire some units from other roads (e.g. US Army Whitcomb 65T's) but it appears that the NW2's were delivered new. And yes, the green scheme is a previous one. Sometime around 1975 they began using blue and white, and then a couple of years ago or so they went back to green.

The URR In Color book says that their 561-62 were ex-Lake Terminal, 539-40 were ex-B&LE, and 538 was ex-Youngstown & Northern. That unit kept the black paint but did receive a URR logo.
