Those look like they can almost be replicated with the alcohol spray wash method Tom .

I don't have many pics of switchers, and the ones I do have are almost all of the Alcos my dad's company owned, but I snapped a few shots of this one I drove up on a few weeks ago.  It has some rust on it if you're looking for a beat-down model, but it's not steel mill or industrial, although some of the coal from Ky May Coal Co. could have ended up at a steel mill:

I wouldn't give up on the Union RR just yet. Some of their units were pretty grubby. There would be the challenge of full length side rails, ladder to the walkway on the roof and a clean picnic cooler (standard equipment for URR switching crews) on the cab deck.

Very unique , rusty , and filthy as a kid in the swamps . Not something you want to touch with your tongue . Is that the horn behind the ladder ? Gee , it even has a walkway railing . But its not a NW-2 , or its one with a more modern hood than the Kato .

Here is an ugly one , and you don't need all the parts . But it has the dreaded white lettering .

Looks like a phase 2 since it has door louvers. I'd let Tom slide.

I don't know about phase variations of NW2's, but the Union RR #554 is listed as an NW2 in the roster printed by X2200 South, issue #39. The notes say that it was upgraded to 1200HP by installing a 12-567AC engine in 10/58. FWIW I got another photo of the 554, taken more than a year later in 9/79, when it was just out of the paint shop--in blue and white.
