Woodland Scenics to make N scale autos?

This evening I did a very quick check on a random sampling of Preiser figures. I grabbed a set at random from their recent releases, so the figures are contemporary--#79210, happened to be railfans. I measured the tallest figure in the bunch and the gentleman checked in at 6' 2". In another random set, the tallest man was 6' 3" and the tallest woman woman was 5' 7".

I think the remark regarding oversized figures was in reference to the American ones Preiser made for Atlas eons ago, which are indeed a bit on the monstrous side. The shortest man I measured was 6' 6", and one woman was a whopping 5' 11". That these figures all have bases (which I subtracted from the measurements) make them seem even more imposing when compared to contemporary Presier figures.

I grew up in a church full of descendants of Dutch immigrants. The "whopping 5'11' " woman you mention in the old Preiser set would be the church organist, Grace Sikma...

Were there any short guys in the mix or were all the men very short NBA forwards?

thanks for the info.

still think that it would be a good idea to take some of the sets most likely to appear on model railroad layouts and compile key data. could probably find some free hosting somewhere to house it.

Actually, if you've got a spreadsheet, you can just import it into google docs (http://docs.google.com) and under the "share" tab set it to "published".

My spreadhseet is not what I would call comprehensive by any means. The figures market is a crazy, massively-confusing place. It's hard to know who owns what any more. Preiser is still Preiser, but is Merten now Preiser-Merten? I've seen references to this. But Merten still has its own catalog, too, and is still making new releases. And Merten figures also show up everywhere--Faller, Noch, Woodland Scenics all sell them. Faller and Noch also apparently have some of their own. It's all very confusing...

Personally, I use whatever's handy.  The model power people are a bit crude, but taken in as part of an overall scene, I don't see where they're that bad.  They are also offering some US looking work crew sets that are very nicely done, IMHO.
