C636 coming from CESM

I've got pictures of the test prints for the locomotive, with the actual parts arriving in the mail tomorrow. Unless something changes after I hit these with a coat of primer, I am switching to 3D printing for the production of these parts, using this printing technology which, in the quantities I'm producing this (min. run 75 units), is identical to the costs of resin casting. I'll be putting the parts together tomorrow and Saturday and the pre-orders should begin either this weekend or early next week.

Using this technology should also allow me to customize each unit to match the prototype, if the modeler desires, for a small fee. That will allow different brake stands, bells, smokestacks, etc.

While I have no use for a C636, this is a wonderful example of the merging of 3D printing, etching and other tools to make unique models otherwise unavailable to the hobby.  Bravo!

I see a day not too far in the future (10 years, maybe?) when manufacturers will produce stock mechanisms, and then shells will be done "to order" depending on prototype.  When you consider that a lot of diesel chassis are identical over several models, with only the shells and perhaps only truck frames differing, this really isn't very far-fetched.  The new order of things is unfolding before our eyes.
