Need suggestions for lumber loads

The lumber loads produced by Dave Mackinnon (Details N Scale) are the best I have seen and I have purchased quite a few for my bulkhead flatcars.  They are not cheap as they are assembled by hand, but in my opinion the appearance is unrivalled.  I have a Hay Bros lumber load and they are not bad.

Are you looking for wrapped sheet goods? If so there's a poster on MRH who had scalable files for mostly Canadian firms that you could download and print. I ran a couple and the resolution was good.

That would be me actually. My templates are all for HO, but you can try using my info and resizing things for N. Certain graphics might start getting a little fuzzy at that size - YMMV.

I made wrapped loads for my mill years ago, similar to Chris', but not as nice.  This was long enough ago that all we had at work was a dot-matrix printer and Dos, with a program written in Basic.  Print a bunch or lines with the company name repeated across the paper, cut them into strips, glue the strips to another sheet, every other one upside down, and run it through a copier.  His look a lot nicer, but mine is a relatively small company, and the basic name on white wrappers does the job.

Somebody used to sell kits for wrapped lumber loads, with each wrapper having to be cut out individually, all of  the end tabs folded and glued, and the blocks stacked.

Photobucket has really gone downhill regarding user friendliness... and that also has left organization of the album on the poor side as of late (and enthusiasm).  Sorry you got to scrounge through the pages, but you can find some old vintage loads made way back on page 4-5, and then some later versions of opera centerbeams somewhere in the mix... dont miss the empty centerbeam image with tie down cables.

The glued up and ripped/cut/sanded Midwest Plywood is the way to go as I mentioned up-thread.

I have a kit like that from CS Models, made in Canada.

Sdodge:  That's probably where mine came from, to go with their chip cars.  The last one I put together, I cut the end tabs off, except on the exposed ends, as well as the bottom portions, so all that was left was the top and sides.  They stacked a lot neater that way, and the bare wood still didn't show.

Those chip cars weren't bad kits, but the ladder arrangement is a little odd by US standards.  Replace the ladders and they work for freelanced Northwest cars.  I still have a pair, in NP and BN paint.

I did the same thing with the wrapped lumber loads. After assembling a few with the paper all around I found they did not stack very well, the paper on the bottom made the stacks uneven so I left it off the bottom on ones I assembled after that and it worked good, the bare wood much more stackable. I use the first ones in the lumber yard.
