Kato F7 Compatibility

Can Anyone tell Me if the shells for the original Kato F7's are compatible with the New mechanisms. I have an ABBA set of PRR from way back when they first came out in the early 90's, and with the prices MBK has at the moment, it looks like a good time to upgrade. Thank You for any assistance.

They are compatible but you have to have the new glass inserts for them to seat properly.

I have tried this a while back and I don't remember whether I was installing a new shell on the old mechanism or the other way around. I seem to recall that besides the side window insert, the fit was sloppy (vertically) because the protrusions under the roof weren't long enough to rest on top of the mechanism.  But that can be easily fixed.  But since the front coupler is attached to the shell, it is important that the shell is properly seated over the chassis.
