Not all Kato passenger cars are only sold in sets. They seemed to come around on Amfleet and Viewliner cars as they also started selling them individually. THe first batch sold out really quickly so they made another batch.

I am not sure that the PRR had DGLE E8s.  However E7s were delivered and ran for some time in DGLE.

There was a thread on the A board,  http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=54038&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=bli , in which several modelers, including the late, great PRR historian Thirdrail, indicated the initial E8's came in DGLE. Also, didn't BLI intend to release their E8's in DGLE?

I miss Thirdrail!  And I knew him for only a short time, mostly from seeing him at train shows -- most often at the Wiregrass Train Show in Dothan AL every September.  He's responsible for my being here -- he told me about this forum while we were visiting at Dothan.

Hi Folks,
The PRR E8s certainly did come in DGLE and were in that colour until he 1953 or there abouts period when the PRR started to paint all their passenger locomotives in the so called Tuscan Red. AQs with the BP20 the first two E8s came with twin headlights and along with that were other differences especially the side grills. Without digging into my Withers Publication on the E8s some were fitted with vertical grills while others were fitted wih the horizontal. None of the PRR E8s were fitted with Dynamic Brakes so the early Kato model is incorrect by having the big fan in the middle of the loco. I just picked up a mech for an Eb so sometime next month I want to do an write up on how I modified my Kato E8s.

I met him at the Wiregrass Train Show in Dothan also, Right about 2003-2004, whatever year it was rescheduled becuase of a storm. Because of the reschedule, they were short on layouts for displays, he was there with his little layout. He encouraged me to talk to the people running the show, and bring my little 2x5 layout out. I would have never done it if he wouldn't have done that. He was a great guy, freindly, and always willing to share his knowlage. I miss him also, thats for sure.

I had some great off thread discussion with Greg and he was such a wealth of info. Great modelling skills. It is quite surprising how the time has flown.

Probably 2004 as I was at Tyndall for tech school then.  And Hurricane Ivan took out most of the Gulf coast that year.
