The scenery looks great for a first attemp! One of the things you got right is how your vegetation follows land contours (this is very important and is missed most of the time). I agree that some washes would help but certainly nothing to fret about. I'm looking forward to seeing how the trees go in! Remeber trees like to grow in groups vs. lone rangers!

Thanks for the vote of confidence.  Yes, these are casting I made from Woodland Scenics molds.  Took me a couple of tries to get used to working with Hydrocal, but over all easy to use.

Thanks Erik!!  I was definately second guessing myself during the process having never done it before.  Seeing it come together bit by bit certainly opened my eyes to looking past the current stage and looking toward the finished result.  I will definately keep the info about the trees in mind when I make the attempt to add them this week.

Looks groovy!
The rocks are a bit uniform in color across the board.
Try some washes.
On the talus, too.

Otherwise, you're just missing the obligitory bottle of beer in the background

Thanks M.C.!!  I agree the rocks are too uniform.  I think I was worried about making them too dark.  They seem darker when you look at them in person but I do see your point.  Do you think I can add the washes to the rocks and ballast now or am I at a point of no return?  I would hate to mess up anything that I have done so far.  Again, I'm new at this so I'm not sure if their are any boundaries when it comes to scenery.

Man that LV layout is stellar! excellent modeling good railside perspective photography.  As for me I got 18 feet of my layout running.

And David, very nice 1st attempt scenery work!  I'd say you have what it takes, keep doing it!

As for me, I've been making slow but steady progress on the layout the last 3 weeks or so.  2nd level main line is almost done and have my interchange yard down.  No pics now cause I've been pretty busy, but will try and get an update in my layout post before the end of the week.

I am a new member to this forum and thus have just discovered "Weekend Update." My first observation is that I see many of the same posts as on the Atlas n-scale forum; that is not a criticism, just an observation.

I am beginning to think that this forum might become a daily view item for me and possibly my n-scale forum of choice.

There are a lot of duplicates between forums, but there is also a lot of differences - there are some of us who don't post on Atlas, saving our work for here.

Roger: You are correct; the key difference being here you shant get "trolled" but may get "told" (told that you should review, this and that, change your method of x or y, might have missed a thing or two.... and it will be said without malace, and with the intent of making you and all of us aware of better techniques....takes a whiel to get used to but "man", when ya do it's a learning experience that you couldn't pay for)

I am delighted that I was introduced to this forum and hope to contribute more than words.  So far I find it a kinder and gentler place to share ideas with fellow n-scale modelers.
