Ohhhh I like this. I’m not up on my wide body diesels. Are those Rapido -8? Or are they someone’s print of the MLW HR616 I think it was? An SD50/60?  I’d love to hear more about these.

Buried in a box somewhere I have a very expensive printed HR-616 shell. I doubt I'll actually do anything with it though, not really a chassis out there that it'd work with (though I have a Rapido CNNA C40-8M that could be a donor, though the truck centers are wrong).

While I took a long weekend from work, it was capped off by leading a course on model railroading for the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society’s Rail Camp yesterday. About 20 students from late elementary to early high school participated with kids coming as far as Alabama for the three day retreat.

Lots of sharp minds out there. I had lots of questions about painting, scenery, module construction, even how about to contact show organizers to exhibit their work. A lot of the kids enjoyed a simple switching exercise on my Lake Shore Central. Kind of interesting to see how engaged they were with a sound engine while moving a simple cut, but hey I’m the same way when I’m not making saw dust or buried with projects in my workshop.

I do want to give a special shout out to Rapido Trains as they donated some very nice boxcars for each student. They have been very supportive in the past three years I’ve been helping out with classes. Also a thank you goes out to Walthers, Lionel, and Broadway Limited for their donations as well!

In all seriousness, its awesome to see folks like yourself devoting time to younger modelers, it makes us very happy always. Wish I lived out that way and could help out myself - maybe I'll have to talk to some folks at my local museums out east here and see about setting up something similar!

I taught classes in Cincinnati for the "Super Saturday" program--one on model kit building (mainly building plastic kits, but we did a session on weathering a freight car), and another on 3D design using TinkerCad. 

From what I can tell, there's plenty of interest by the kids.  I think a big reason kids don't get into it is mainly because their parents didn't, so they never were exposed to the various types of modeling.

it was a very rewarding experience for me (and hopefully the kids)!

I have a CN Motive Power Dept file somewhere with all of their plans up to the late 80's iirc... shows the major dimensions like length over pulling face, elevations, truck centers, etc.

Looking like the only HR-616 I'll own is in HO.
