Well I pretty much finished 503 tonight. It needs couplers and weathering. (And a step replaced that broke off two years ago, which I can’t find right now... and will show up as soon as I build and paint one).
The final steps were to add windshield wipers to the cab and install the side railings. After that I soldered the cab light wires to the decoder.
Then the front railings/pilot were glued in place.
Then the cab was installed. I had built it to take four screws but it only took one to make it settle into place. I still added a second on the opposite side for strength.
Lastly was the rear handrails/pilot.
Here’s the broken step. The type of resin used for this kit is REALLY brittle. When you separate parts from the sprue little shards break away. I believe he’s using a new stronger product now.
And that’s that. Here’s where it’s at now.
Hmm, I see it needs number board decals too.
Once it’s weathered and the filters have a nice dark colour I’ll be very please with it. This is my first completed Briggs loco kit and I have several more other types to do. These are nice kits. Not easy but without it we would t have these niche locos.
