It would be a simple matter to also produce an S5. The models are very similar and I was considering it as part of the series. I was planning on pretty much comprehensive C415 versions. To my process I would have most parts if I was to do the SP and SP&S models anyhow so I might as well.

Great shots Tim! Thanks for posting.

For now my model of 502 will be unweathered but once I acquire those skills it’s going to need the full treatment. 1987 is more in line with everything else I’m modelling so I’ll likely wind up with 502/503.

I need to find a couple of those rerailers too. Having that orange thing under the sill is too obvious to leave out. I wonder who makes that style?

Craig.

Craig,

Go to Shapeways and look up James' Train Parts.  Scroll through the list and find the Type 1 and Type 2
Re-railers.   These are what you want for BCR stuff.  The proper one can be determined from photos of the prototype.

That would be great! I just expected that no one would be interested in making a kit for an engine that only had 7 examples.

The 2nd Ed of the Diesel Spotter's guide says that the S5 and S6 are indistinguishable so that leads me to believe that any differences are internal.

From the pictures I've seen the S5 has louvers but the S6 has square air intakes.

In regards to the printing striations, I always orient parts whenever I can so they are in a spot that can be sanded as easily as possible.

Right now SDL39 models are waiting for etched parts, for release this coming week. In development for late September release are GP40-2L and C415 locos, and I have the S6 (in particular SP version) slotted for early October. The C415 will use Atlas RS3 for chassis parts, and the S6 I am looking at the Bachmann S4 chassis.

I’ve decided I’m still going to sand them a little. I agree that you made it so I can work around most of the detail and since they will both be weathered it won’t effect my paint.

While I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks, this project is still charging forward with the furvor of a very determined snail.

I’m waiting for a break in my schedule to get to the LHS to replace some paints that spoiled.

In the mean time, this came in the mail:

I was originally going to leave 502 freshly painted and weather later but I decided that would be too difficult. I’m hoping that armed with this book I can make a good go of it.

It will be a month from now at least. Royal Mail lost the SDL39 etched parts, and some other detail parts so..waiting for replacements now. N scale GP40-2L, an HO scale project, then N scale S5/6, then N scale C415. :) Somewhere in there are TOFC BCR flat cars centerbeam and log bunk 62' bulkhead flats.

Excellent to hear. After seeing Craig's build, I'm sold on your printer. By the way(and not that you asked), the Rock Island used the same medium cab as SPS, but the same exhaust placement as the SP units along with AAR type B trucks like SP.

That's what I'm curious about is if Hi-Ad truck sideframes will be made available?

Yes I will make the HiAd sideframes, as well as cab and exhaust variants.

Work is progressing. I’ve now painted all of the yellow, silver, and black parts and the red, blue and white model is ready for assembly and decals. The green one needs a massive amount of weathering first which I will start soon.
