Sadly no.  As with you, I am only aware of the basics.  I first learned of it decades ago around when the MTL reefer model was first released.

Correct or not, i'm not having two 1990's made Kato PRR F3s DCC'ed to haul modern Hazmat trains... I'll buy one of every eastern looking reefer that i've the dough for  :D
I see my reefer string growing exponentially in the near future... Then all i need to do is buy a crate of FVM metal wheelsets...

looking at the SP boxcar since they survived into my era...too bad only 15 made it to 1985, would have gone for more if more survived till then
