True Line Trains "punting" their initial n scale offering - wrong numbers, logo placement, ride height and, oh ya, the door track from hell...............but their fixing it all with release number 2....sigh.



A 10 on the "duh" scale.

Absolutely 100% agree, ride height is atrocious and at more than $20 a boxcar, OUCH. No more.

I agree that the sentiment of this thread nicely sums up the general negative tone of too many posts and threads by us truly and that as a group, we deserve the POS award.

Never in history have there been more good MRR N Scale products available.....and yet...... :

Bigger question.  It's not only the end of the year but the end of another decade (seems like Y2K was only yesterday).  What was the biggest POS for the decade?  This should bring the comments out of the woodwork!

Bob, I've had some disappointments over the last decade, but I haven't bought anything model train related I'd call a POS. Now there was this DVD player I bought...

Yeah, there's a lot of good stuff out there.  And I really have to THINK about what's been so bad that it achieves that status.

But if you think about it, there have been products introduced that have resulted in immediate fixes, apologies, etc. from the manufacturers.  And if nothing else, THAT qualifies as self-nomination, we don't even have to do it.

Like er, um... swapped side panels on the IM B-units?  Oops, but they fixed it.
Uh....complete re-issue of the Bachmann 2-6-6-2 due to drive problems?
And don't look now, but it appears like the dummy coupler on the Bachmann 44-tonner is gone... and not only that but the collective 'whining' on the handrail thickness between the prototype and the final was noticeably less.  You can't say they don't read this stuff.  Fixed.

And there's more.  I do think there's lots of reasons to be thankful for any manufacturer that puts it out there, their money, at risk, but also thankful when everybody (including them) realizes, yeah...we gotta fix that...


I don't get particularly upset about foobies, etc. or even minor detailing glitches that are fixable by the purist, but I do get irritated when a product comes out that's actually bad enough to make people throw up their hands and walk away from N scale.  THAT we've had quite enough of by now.  That's all I ask, don't drive people away with bad stuff.  It at least has to work for the market it was intended.

And my 'little POS' really qualifies.   Lord help anybody that would judge N by that thing.

The only reason I started it was to tell a funny story about a disappointing purchase. A lot more fun than just complaining about it I thought.

I'm going to guess I'm all by myself on this one, but the Biggest POS, without a doubt I have obtained in the first 10 years of the 2000's in the Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidation.... both the original one that flat out didn't run and the replacement that ran for a day then sputtered and died.... garbage; total and complete trash....yet there will be some that would nominate it for a product of the decade award..... all of which means that Bachmann's QC on that project may have been the POS more so than the Connie.
