Pulp Boxcar Vents

I'm currently working on creating models of the ex-Railbox cars that CN added a 12' plug door to. (CNA 412250-412574)

I now that the cars were rebuilt starting in 1994 with plug doors. Does anybody know when railroads started adding the vents to boxcars used in pulp service? What would be appropriate for the time around 2007?

A quick glance at photos they seem to be added around the mid 2000s. Looks like several years of both with and without around.

Find a year appropriate photo for the number you want to model. also note the placement of the vents there was some variation there that would be interesting on a modelled fleet.

Is this the same car PWRS did a decade ago? The raised-roof PS 5077s that CN inherited from BCR (BCOL)? PWRS still has some of its research online at https://www.pwrs.ca/announcements/view.php?ID=13225. According to it, BCR added vents during a 2000 rebuilding. A surprising amount of detail variety in those cars.

I had no idea PWRS had done something similar. The ones I'm doing started out life as Plate C 5277 Railbox cars whereas the PWRS cars were Plate B originally. The link you shared has a lot of detail shots that will be good for other projects.

Those CP are begging to be modelled too. The raised roof would really make them stand out when mixed in with other boxcars.

Sidetrack: if anybody has drawings for these flat cars, please share. https://tracksidetreasure.blogspot.com/2016/08/cn-6104xx-series-ingot-bulkhead-flatcars.html  The extra bulkheads and the open frame in the middle make this series unique.

My ability to railfan being greatly diminished these days, I have taken to online research. One of the resources has been HO manufacturer model photos. Kaslo shops offers an HO kit of the same car type, which is worth studying. No drawings, but photos of clean models offer the ability to see how things go together better than many raiilfan shots, and you can guestimate from manufacturer model shots too. https://www.kasloshops.com/products/hk-57-cn-ex-dwp-marine-industries-51-6-aluminum-ingot-car-kit
Of course, if the manufacturer fudged, their mistake may be compounded on your model but... Let's just say I figure the Kaslo Shops model is a better model than the Walthers version of the same flat.

Those pictures of the HO scale model are very nice and show a lot of the details. This picture shows a length of 55' 4" over the end sills which is a good starting point for figuring the other dimensions. https://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=cn610448&o=cn

I'll probably do a 4 piece model, the flat car, two end bulkheads, and a center bulkhead assembly to make painting easier. It looks like the center sill is solid the entire length of the cars so I can add a tungsten rod the full length of the car and both add weight and prevent warping. Now, if only Atlas would re-release the Micro Trains trucks/couplers ....
