How would you approach building this?

One element of my layout is an auto parts facility that covers a 2' by 6' peninsula.  I'm trying to figure out the best (cost effective) way to build the structures.  I'm not looking for anything super detailed, just basic representations.

Foam board covered with cheap styrene for sale signs .. some 3d printed roll up doors and various roof bits and bobs ..

I keep finding foam core warps, maybe that's me. I'd probably go with a plywood core, and then the rest of John's ideas.

Considering the size of the things, unless you want detailed interiors, I might just use 3 or 4 inch lumber and build them as a solid block, with styrene or cardstock overlays for the exterior.

That's what I'd do, but using Styrene only, not cardstock.  Paper deteriorates more over the years than Styrene, unless they make archival-quality cardstock(??).  Separation and warpage won't be a problem with decent thickness Styrene.

Have you ever tried the mat board they use in picture framing? Lasts better than regular cardboard and is easy to cut, leaves nice clean edges. I’ve gotten scraps from a local shop, they had lots and mostly free. If you have or know someone with a cutter like a circuit or silhouette you can draw the parts on the computer and cut them with laser-like accuracy.
