Well I’m glad, or maybe disappointed to read this thread. I was going to get an EL version, but with a more conservative hobby budget these days I am going to pass and put that towards something with better reviews.. (save it for Altoona lol)
I had serious issues with the IMRC tunnels motors a lifetime ago, those are shelf queens now.
Bummer the CR patched 45-2s are some of my favorite early CR power…
I still have a slew of Intermountain tunnel motors. They were OK once I replaced the wheels with Kato wheels and carefully glued the handrails in place since they popped loose at the slightest breeze or glance. They were easy to add sound with a lot of space at the rear for a speaker.
For the time they were OK, with work, and by default, all we had. But time and product advancement marched on -- not apprarently for IMRC and these new SD45-2s...
