Bachmann Metroliner - suitable Tomytec chassis

Does anyone have a recommendation for a suitable Tomytec chassis to fit under the N-scale Bachmann Metroliner? It runs OK, but is so very noisy.

The Tomix tm-05, 09 and 13 have the right axle centers but they are to short, you’ll need to chop one up and make it longer.

I think the kato RDC might fit but I haven’t attempted it

Lee Weldon stretched one and sent it to me for 'tweaking'.   I don't know what chassis he started with, but this is how it was put together inside.   I don't think there is any chassis that is the exact length.

The short-wheelbase trucks have inside wheel 'plates' that contact the bushings on the inside of the wheels.  Just not as effective as end axles for pickup, but I don't think Tomytec has a short-wheelbase end-axle mechanism any more, hope I'm wrong.

And if you intend to run one hard the stock Tomytec motors are not particularly industrial grade, I've worn the finger brushes out on a couple.  I'd refit with Atlas or Kato if the model was intended to be a long-term runner and not a display item.

The driveshafts are custom fitted to length with K&S tubing, telescoping, so when you fit in the motor and get everything set, you ACC the tubing joint and you're set.

Iirc, an RDC has the correct truck centers as well as truck wheelbase and side frames for a Metroliner.

RDCs have 33" wheels while Metroliners have 36" wheels.

I’d go RDC if you intend to run it much.  Also issue of turning flanges, which isn’t impossible, if on Atlas code 55

My number one issue with the Tomytec chassis... the pizza cutters.  I have burned out one motor on a streetcar that tends to see days and days of running during shows.

Yeah, just to be more succinct, the ONLY N scale motors I've worn out in recent memory have been Tomytec.  So if you're swapping out to Atlas or Kato and then having to turn wheels, the Kato RDC starts looking a whole lot better.  But if it's a 'run it once a year for fun' on > Atlas C55, well have at it.
