Today Tangent has anounced the Erie ICC Bay window cabooses in ho C301-C350 series. These are available now.  Offering multiple numbers and and multiple schemes. Erie, El, CR, and D&H.  I had hoped they would get to the Eries since they seem to be working their way through their bay window series.  However part of me never thought I would see the day I would get a proper rtr Erie bay window caboose. I have mine on order.

That’s great news for you, Erie folks!  I have two Tangent cabooses, a B&O (Chessie) I-18 bay window caboose and a Southern Ry. Gantt bay window caboose.  Expensive?  Yes, but worth it to me for the accurate detailing and to retire foobs.  I’d never had guessed that we’d see such accuracy on models that come from prototypes that weren’t produced in massive numbers.

I can only hope that someday Tangent does an ACL M-5 class caboose decorated for the multiple schemes of the ACL, SCL, and SBD.

I got my pair in the mail on Thursday.  I haven’t been able to make it to the club yet to run them so we’ll see how well they run at a later date. I have other tangent cabooses and they all track really well so I don’t really expect there to be a difference. I did order two pair of extra trucks to use for a pair of JJL Dunmore caboose kits I’ve been working on. Once receiving them and seeing how well they roll, I ordered enough to retro fit my fleet of Erie cabooses and milk cars.

I agree completely about the price being merited by the amount of detail and accuracy.  I’m still amazing because who would have thought that we would see an accurate Erie caboose in plastic. I figured I’d always be stuck in the kit and brass caboose world. With all the cabooses tangent has done, I would suspect that we’ll see another roads caboose in 6-12 months.  I’m pulling for you on the ACL/SBD/SCL front.

These are nicer than anything you'd find in brass, which was the old school standard.  8)

Here are side by side photos of tangent Erie caboose and one of the overland brass with full underbody detail. I haven’t run the overland for a while but tonight I upgraded the trucks to the new tangent ones and it made a would have difference. I also noticed that when I painted it I seem to have forgetting to paint the roof black. I looked for prototype pictures thinking maybe I had a photo with a red roof but no luck there. Ill fix that next time I fire up the airbrush.

The brass caboose has a pre 1941 "ERIE" font on a 1953 caboose.

Good catch. Add that to list of things to fix.
