Dimensioning road curbs

I'm working on curbs for my Jasper townsite.  Standard road curbs are 230 mm at the crest for roadside and 295 for median curbs, according to the government standard drawings.  This scales to just over 1 mm in scale, which seems rather small to my thinking.

What to people do for curbs on their layouts?  Exaggerate and make it 3-4 mm wide or something?  Looking for suggestions and examples- thanks in advance.

2 mm would be closer, corresponding to 320 mm. Enough of an exaggeration to be perceptible, but not too much of one.

So the prototype scales to 1.43mm and 1.84mm respectively. I would be inclined to use 0.060" and 0.080" square styrene, which is 1.5mm and 2mm.

I think typical Evergreen tile is .10" or about 2mm.  So I get .10 strip stock and glue it to the edge



Then I'm careful to leave it hovering somewhere above the street pavement so there's somewhere for the gremlins to crawl out at night and screw with my turnout points and electrical connections.

For 6" curb with a 6" flag, I use 0.040" square stock for the curb, and when I mask for the concrete color, offset on the road surface to add the flag. 

To translate into maple syrups, that's 1mm square stock.  That seems like plenty, as I doubt Jasper had higher barrier curbs.  I don't remember stepping over any during last visit.

Not sure I’m following correctly, because 230 mm (9.05”) and especially 295 mm (11.6”) seem huge for curbs.  I recall that I used 0.040” x 0.040” (just a hair over 1 mm) styrene for my curbs when I was in N scale.  I think that scales out to 162.56 mm (6.4”), which looked good to me. 

As an aside, I use 0.080” x 0.080” in HO scale, so that seems huge to me for N scale.

Curbs here in eastern Kentucky, all in the same town, range from about 8 in/200 mm to less than an inch/25 mm.  There may be taller ones, but I haven't noticed them.  Many on residential streets are low enough that the locals park in the grass without a formal driveway.

I use .030" or .040" depending on the prototype.
