Turns out to not be difficult to achieve, if all of the settings are correct.

I think that's where the key may be... I've tried a little bit in there, and modded a HEMTT tire to be flat, but a lot of the modifiers are a mystery still.

Death of the PRSL – Part III

Deconstruction has been completed.

Now I just have to get the "bones" of the "new" layout in place and the house cleaned up before my wife returns from Florida and sees the mess I have made.

This week, I assembled a MP baggage car I had designed a while ago.  I've always liked these double-doored cars.  They are so different looking. So it's been fun to finally see it in its completed form.



This is just the practice car.  I have already discovered a list of tweaks needed for V2.  At the top of the list is the couplers. To have an accurate ride height, I needed to remove the top end of a 1015.  The alternative would have been to cut an indentation into the car end, which I didn't want to do. But now, I think the indentation would look better. What I have, with the exposed spring, just looks... off.  It'll be a good runner car, though.

Coming up soon is the paint shop.  Then decals.  Anyone (Mike?) know the right white stripes to use? I can't find info saying if the stripe is supposed to be 3 inches, 4 inches or 5 inches wide.

I’ve been hand laying turnouts trying to get some depot track functional for RPM Chicagoland next week.

The overlapped turnouts were to squeak in the smallest of turntables.

Decaling 2 more GP15 to add to the YorkRail fleet.  2 TP&W units are stationed in York now, so 1 for them and another YRC unit.  Numbers to be added yet, probably 1538 and 1548.  Second photo shows how far Atlas missed with their paint color selection, also noticed tonight they painted the walkways yellow and they should be black.

Bryan-  might not be evident in photos, but they would have had to have been tied down somehow?!

I went through most of my RBB&B consist reference pics tonight.  There are examples of the canvas truck tarps being tied down but also pics of the tarps not being tied down, including pics where the tarp has half slid off to one side.  So it would have been better for me to say that there were times when the canvas truck tarps were not secured with tie downs.

Interesting.  I just can't imagine a tarp staying put without tie downs.  It would have to be heavy, and if that heavy, unlikely to be easily maneuvered by hand.  Either way, model looks great and looking forward to a Blender tutorial!

That's a drawing as opposed to a photo.  That said, I did state that the wagons in general were tied down and that I was referring specifically to the canvas trucks.

Although these slide images are not the best, note that these wagons actually have tarps draped and not tied, while the tarp on cavnas truck 253 also is draped and not tied (and askew).

Been working on perfecting a tarp using Blender and importing the results into SolidWorks to merge with an existing model. This Mack CJ canvas truck is the first I finished with a tarp covering its contents.



Wow , you could sell those trailer length and one could disect and reassemble to fit anything .

Building a CN (ex Canadian Northern) station kit by Monashee. A lot of laser cut wood parts in this kit. The stations are quite good looking, at one time there where hundreds of these stations spread across Western Canada. All of them had living accommodations for the Operator/Agent and his family.

Thanks. ACF built these cars in 1963, so these arrived in the Jenks blue 1960s scheme. I can post a picture later today.  Do you have any 1960s painting diagrams?

This week I modified my Train Order slightly, ran a few trains and realized it wasn’t doing the job for all the moves required to work the Fruitvale yard so I came up with a simple switch list form to detail the work that a dedicated  switcher or way freight crew could use in addition the the Train Order…



 
I also did some simple place name and directions labelling, even I was getting disoriented as to north and south because of this folded loop design.

No it doesn’t. Ringling didn’t tie down the canvas truck tarps.

Even with the tarps that were more secured, they used bands or ropes over the top rather than tie downs attached to the tarp edges.

Having spent a little time around open top trailers, I'm wondering if there isn't a drawstring/elastic material sewn into the truck tarp or some type of fastener on the trailer that a grommet in the tarp hooks to if it's not tied down/secured in some fashion. I am obviously having a bit of trouble with the truck tarps staying put at track speed if they are just draped over the top of the open top box. Is it possible that the means that was used to secure the tarp on truck 253 failed and that's the reason it's off at the cab? You obviously have many more photos to reference I would guess. Or am I overthinking it due to my sometimes negative interactions with tarps and moving down the road?

Nice work on the painting! FWIW I’ve seen that much variation in the units on the Carolina Piedmont; that orange fades quick depending on what paint they actually used.
